Reflections for Senior Trooper Anthony Greg Cogdill
I grieve for you and your children. My son is a NCSHP Trooper in Wake Co. and I offer my condolences for your loss.

My sympathy goes out to Trooper Anthony G. Cogdill's family. I never knew him but he is still a part of the family and the law enforcement community. It just shows how important our job is to each other. Now when I inspect these trucks I pay even more attention than I did before, because that could have been me instead or any of us. Please show no mercy on these careless and wreckless drivers who don't care about us and the great people of our state. Rest in Peace my friend..

Words cannot express our sadness as we lay to rest yet another law enforcement officer.
Our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends, and North Carolina troopers as we cope with this loss, but rejoice in proudness and blessedness as we remember Anthony's life and career as a fine law enforcement officer.
Cody, your dad was awesome-be proud of him. I'm sure as he's looking down on you from Heaven, he's as proud as he can be of you.

Anthony, It is with great regret that I am writing to you on this list of fallen officers. I never would have imagined, when we talked just two nights before your death, that I would soon be attending your funeral. It's so ironic that we discussed the very issue that took your life! Your death brought back more painful memories from Calvin's, since the two were so similar. It's so hard to believe that this has happened twice in the same county. I am really at a loss for words, but wanted to leave you some kind of a tribute. You were my room mate in Patrol Basic School and a great friend. As I watched the video at your funeral service, I saw a picture of you and I in Basic School. You were great as a room mate. You kept an otherwise "tense" situation tolerable, and I appreciate that. When we were in Basic School together, I hoped I'd never have to endure this with you. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. I'm also glad we got to work that last special assignment together at the race! It was good to see you again there. I know that you'd tell us to move on, but I'll never forget you and the times we shared! It seems like you were taken from us in your prime. But, I also know that God doesn't make mistakes! There will be some good come from this tragedy. I've learned in the past not to try to understand why, but only put my trust in the Lord. I'll miss you AG.

I never knew Trooper Codgill personally but he was a member of my Patrol family. He will be missed dearly by all of us. Myself, along with all of the other members of the Patrol mourn for this tragic loss. We all loved him, but God loved him more and called him home to be with Him.

Anthony,
You were there when I least expected you. On a dark highway or city street. Sometimes I would look up and see you behind me, watching in concern as I performed a vehicle stop. Sometimes I would pull up along side you as you did the same and get that reassuring smile and a "Thank You for watching out for me." Now you're up in Heaven, still watching out for me, still smiling. I thank you friend, brother. I will always remember and some day, I'll thank you in person when my watch is 10-42 and I'm called home to Heaven. May God bless you and your family and may your legacy live on in you son, Cody. WE WILL NEVER FORGET......
Your friend, Jeff

I only worked with you for a short time in North Carolina, but we became friends. You gave your life for a job I know you loved, just as I still do. North Carolina and the Nation are proud of the work you have done. We will not forget the sacrifices that you, your wife, child and family have made and will continue to make as long as they live. We Honor you and we Honor your family for they are truly as much a hero and victim as our fallen brother.
Know that I will be with your family and friends on May 15th, 2004, when you are Remembered at the National Police Week Memorial. And I will always remember you every year as I have been doing with all of the Fallen Officers with other Police Survivors for the past years while working with Montgomery Co. Police, MD.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow troopers of Trooper Cogdill.
While we may all wear different uniforms and serve in different jurisdictions, we are all united in other sworn duties to uphold the law and protect the public.
Rest in peace my friend, let those of us who remain cover your post on the thin blue line until we meet again.

I would like to tender my deepest condolances and heartfelt sorrow to the family of Trooper Cogdill, as well as his brothers in the NCSHP, on their unimaginable loss.
"I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss overwhelming. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom." -- A.
