To the North Carolina Troopers and the family of Trp Cogdill,
I was traveling thru your great state the the weekend of the accident. We were moving our new Youth and Education Minister from NC to Columbia, TN. I heard about the tragedy as we were headed back west on the 30th of May. My heart sank when I heard the news.
I pray for his wife and family. I am thankful for the men and women who serve our country by putting their lives on the line daily.
God bless you all

I did not know Trooper Anthony G. Cogdill yet he was and is my brother. I ask Almighty God to comfort his family and friends in this time of their loss. I experienced a personal loss of my own on February 1, 1992 when a close and dear brother Trooper was taken in the line of duty from us. In that loss, the Lord showed me that nothing is a surprise to him. He allowed that event to happen because he had a higher calling for my friend. I know and trust that God is using Trooper Cogdill right now, in a way that no man on this earth could begin to understand. I just thank God for the time that his family and friends had on this earth to enjoy him. Please know that anyone who believes and has accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior will surely see Trooper Cogdill again. This is just one of the many things my Lord has shown me in the past 25 years of patrolling the highways. May God Bless each and every one of you and Be Safe Out There!

It is a sad day for Carolina blue. We wish to extend our sincere condolences and prayers to Anthony's family and friends. Anthony was a top notch Trooper and loved his job. Words cannot express the sorrow we feel. We will miss you, G533 on those special assignments. You already have a special assignment in store for you, walking on streets of gold.

To the family of Trooper Cogdill, I express my deepest and heart felt sorrow for your loss. I'am a brother of an Officer and also a Professional Truck Driver. I read the memorial pages to pay respect to the Officers who fall in the line of duty. I would like to say to the North Carolina Troopers especially, but to all Officers as well that I greatly appreciate the hard work and sacifice you have made to serve and protect us from criminals such as the driver involved. I hope that the state of North Carolina punishes the driver to the fullest extent possible. Take a stand and remove those who don't belong in a Tractor Trailer and make companies who employ these drivers responsible for the people they employ. To Trooper Cogdill, I did not know you but let me thank you for your service and express my apologies. My thoughts and prayers are with you, all Officers and family.

Another senseless tragedy, albeit an occupational hazard to the fine officers and gentlemen who fearlessly patrol the nations highways and byways. May God be with you and your family during this time of grief. God Bless....

Anthony,
It has been a week now since your departure. I am back behind the same console as that dreadful day. I look back and recall just the night before. You and I had dinner at your favorite fish place. As I left after dinner, you were still talking to an old man at the next table. I laughed cause once again you looked as if you were again, "trapped like a rat", in a conversation you just could not leave. The look you gave me as I left was priceless, it was a big grin, but I knew what it meant.
Many times in life we take for granted things that we just assume will always be there. My friend, I never thought you and your friendship would be taken so early. One of the comforts I have this date is knowing that your friendship ran deeper than I had ever thought. We both have a very special friend that enlightened me on how deep our friendship was. I just wished I had known before now.
Senior Trooper Cogdill. It was my pleasure and honor to have been your telecommunicator.
My prayers and heart felt sympathy goes to your family.

I feel certain that I speak for the entire class of the 107th Basic School when I say that we were truly saddened by the loss that our family, the NCSHP, suffered on Friday May 30th. Our prayers go out to Heidi and Cody as well as all of Anthony's family and friends. You will not be forgotten!
God Bless.

Trooper Codgill - though I never knew you, your sacrifice makes me proud to be an American - you knew the risks, yet you performed the job, to keep your charges safe. To the family and friends of Trooper Codgill - though I never knew you, your sacrifice tears me apart. Our world has too few real heroes, those who are willing to put their lives on the line for Right, without thought of self. And we have lost another. I came to know of this story as it was related by one of the first on the scene and one of Trpr Codgill's friends, and feel as if I was there to experience the tragedy, and yet desperately wish I could have been for you. Life seems so unfair sometimes, tragedy strikes without warning, shattering our lives. I know not why, but I do know this - He is Good, He is in control, and He always does right. Perhaps He decided it was time that this hero reach his reward. I do not know Trpr Codgill's faith, but I do know that if his selfless heroism is any indication, there is no doubt. You are all in my prayers, I wish words could convey the weight that is on my soul for you. "Be strong and courageous, do not be terrified . . . He will never leave you nor forsake you."
RIP Trooper Codgill - you are a true hero!
Mick
My prayers and sympathy go out to Trooper Cogdill's family. It has been over 21 years since my husband was killed in the line of duty, but I remember vividly what you are going through at this time. Know that the "law enforcement family" and your community will be there for support whenever you need it. I could not have survived without fellow law enforcement officers and their concern and love.
God Bless you all...spouse, son, parents, and fellow law enforcement officers.... and may you be comforted by all the precious memories of Trooper Cogdill that you share.
I am here if you need me.

May God grant your family a comforting peace as you transcend this earthly bound. I have no doubt that God will meet you with open arms as you go forth to patrol the streets of heaven under his command. May God bless you, your family, friends, and all of the remaining peace officers who will continue the watch here in your absence.

It is with a Heavy Heart that I attempt to put something into words that will convey our Sadness to the Family and Friends of Sr. Trooper Anthony G. Cogdill, My Friend.
We were Priveledged to know this young Man as he and Mike Holcombe rented our house next door on Newfound Rd."The Newfound Mansion", for 3 years, and while he attended SHP Rookie school.I also worked with him as a Uniformed Patrol Officer at Buncombe County Sheriff's Dept. the two of them ate with us often and became more than renters, they are like Sons to us, and we love them as such. The NCSHP did an outstanding job on the Funeral, it was a fitting tribute to an outstanding young man. Anthony was indeed a very Special young Man, and we loved him like a Son and told him often, We will miss him and that Infectious Smile. But we know that God had plans we cannot question, We know He is there now with Calvin and others From NCSHP that have gone on before him, in the Presence and warm embrace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

THE POLICEMAN’S LAST ROLL CALL ...
THE POLICEMAN STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD, WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS.
HE HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING, JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS.
"STEP FORWARD NOW, POLICEMAN. HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU?
HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER CHEEK? TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain’t.
Because those of us who carry badges can’t always be a Saint.
I’ve had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I’ve been violent because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny that wasn’t mine to keep,
though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help, though sometimes I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me, I’ve wept many unmanly tears.
I know I don’t deserve a place among the people here,
they never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you’ve a place for me Lord, it needn’t be so grand.
I never expected or had too much, but if you don’t, I’ll understand."
There was silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod.
As the Policeman waited quietly, for the judgement of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman, you’ve borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven’s streets, you’ve done your time in hell."
