Reflections for Officer Patrick Kent Hardesty

I knew Pat for the last two years he was an OSO in the Corps. My Boss and I were up at his station one week and I talked Pat into going to a James Bond Spy type place called the Safe house, you had to have a password to get in. Pat didn't want to go b/c he didn't know the password. I told him it was "Thunderball" when actually it was "I'm looking for a safe house". What he didn't know is that the other OSO and I were inside taping him on the t.v. monitor system they had there as he whispered the wrong password and was made to ballet dance and other things to get in. He knew that he had been set up then but put on the best show possible. We laughed about that all night and for the rest of the time we served together. What a great guy with an awesome sense of humor. I will truly miss him.

HE WILL WIPE EVERY TEAR FROM THEIR EYES. THERE WILL BE NO MORE DEATH OR MOURNING OR DRYING OR PAIN, FOR THE OLD ORDER OF THINGS HAS PASSED AWAY. (REV 21-4) YOUR COUNTRY, AND COMMUNITY ARE A SAFER PLACE FOR BOTH OUR FAMLIES BECAUSE OF YOUR SERVICE. SEMPER FI BROTHER

Watch out Lord, another bright one comes your way
Lighting up the highway to Heaven, with his life he paid...
He'll be traveling fast "code 3" with lights of red and blue,
Yet we all know that past those gates, he's not the first to come through! Patrick K. Hardesty, You will forever loved and missed!

Almost two years ago, Det. Kevin Rice from our Department was murdered. I was vacationing in Tucson on the day Patrick Hardesty was murdered. I felt such an overwhelming sense of grief for his family and his Department. I sat in our room at the Westin LaPaloma watching the news coverage with tears streaming down my face. Similarly, both suspects had long criminal records but were back on the streets. The way a Department and Community pulls together when an Officer dies is so amazing. I could see how Tucson was supporting your police family...just as Rockford did ours. My prayers and thoughts are with the Hardesty family and his Tucson PD family. Time eases your pain, but it remains forever. As I learned while vacationing in Tucson...how close the pain of Kevin's murder is still in my heart. And now I will carry sadness for Officer Hardesty...If you meet our Kevin on your new assignment , ask him for a jelly bean!

Patrick,
You were never anything but a pleasure to be around. I consider it an honor to have served with you. I will never forget your always upbeat attitude during the academy. I am a better person, having known you. I will NEVER forget you. Semper Fidelis Devil Dog, I will see you again in time.

My most sincere condolences to the family of Patrick Hardesty. Although, I have never met him, we are cousins by way of his Grandfather Joseph Paul Hardesty who was a brother to my Gr. Grandmother Eliza Jane Hardesty Rodgers. We surely will remember all in our prayers.

Patrick,
As an aquaintance of 29 years and as my best friend/brother for 27 years, I have a few things to tell you just in case there is internet in heaven. I hope you read all of these messages, because you will be missed.
First, let me say that I am sorry, that I was not there to watch your back, like I was all the other times. I should have been there for you and your family.
Second, be sure that I will watch over your family always and make sure that they will not go without or hurt for anything, just as you would have done.
Third, I am so sorry that in our conversations when you asked "when are we going to do that road trip?" And I told you we would get it done soon, and didn't, I apologize.
I love you my friend, and It hurts me to say goodbye. We had many good times together. Joining the Marines together,
seeing Hollywood for the first time together, riding our motorcyles like crazy banshi's on the Ortega Hwy in CA together.
Being roommates together in Tucson as you attended the UofA to become an officer after I got the hell out after 4 years.
Breaking into Mexico together because niether one of us knew that they closed the border at midnight.
Taking me flying after you got your pilot's license and showing off for me (even though I did not want to go).
I love you bro, I always will. I know we were always competitive, but as far as the memorial, you have me beat. I will never be able to beat taps, bagpipes, the Marines Hymn, Amazing Grace, the National Anthem, a 21 Gun Salute, 11 helicopters and 3 airplanes flying over.
A three mile procession with over 300 squad cars and motorcycles? Didn't you over do it a little?
In the limo ride to your service my wife CJ mad a comment to the fact that "Pat finally had all the cops in Tucson following him around". Your brother Ed replied "Yeah, but I always thought it would be you Frank". I had a laugh for me and you.
In hopes that someday, I could walk in your shoes. See ya later bro.
Friends forever,
Frank J. Prag

As I write this, I am sad for your sacrifice in the line of duty, but at the same time I can see that you were truly a man of God and a good witness to the people that I have talked to since your death that said that they knew you. Your wife Demetra was such a good witness to that as she was recently interviewed by the media. She called you her Prince Charming and that you were everything she asked for in a husband and that you were a man of God. When she said that, it brought tears to my eyes. I was very touched by that and I know that you are by that also. Watch our backs from up above and we all will meet one day in the sky.

This is a very sad day for the Law Enforcement family, Officer Hardesty you truly made a difference with your Police, as well as your Military service, you are a true American hero, you will not be forgotten...

I didn't personally know Patrick Hardesty but after attending his funeral service, I felt like I knew the person he was. He was a great man who loved his family at home and his family in law enforcement. I know he is watching over us and keeping us safe from here on out and I feel better going to work knowing that. God Bless Patrick's family and friends and we will continue the watch over our city that Patrick loved so much. Rest in Peace brother.

Deputy Renee Hesser

May God grant your family a comforting peace as you transcend this earthly bound. I have no doubt that God will meet you with open arms as you go forth to patrol the streets of heaven under his command. May God bless you, your family, friends, and all of the remaining peace officers who will continue the watch here in your absence.

3A61, I only wish you could have seen the way our department came together to honor you, and your sacrifice. Rest in peace knowing that members of other divisions made sure all of your ODM brothers and sisters were freed up to attend your services. You served with pride, honor, and integrity, and for that all of us thank you. As I stood guard over you on Thursday my thoughts were of how proud I was to serve with you. Today we laid you to rest with the honor you deserved. As I drove my patrol car not far from where you fell the following words were read on all TPD radio frequencies, and all of us paused to honor our fallen brother...

"all units, all units this is the last call for Ofc. Patrick Hardesty...3 adam 61...3 adam 61...3 adam 61...3 adam 61 is in heaven now with the lord Jesus Christ Almighty 3 adam 61, 10-7, 1141 hours frequency is cleared"
