Reflections for Deputy Sheriff James Joseph Mulay
My son James Paul Mulay Junior wrote to this site previously. He is a Deputy Sheriff working for the same agency as I did. It is too erie to have two names spelled the same way and both individuals worked as Deputy Sheriffs'. I was born In Chicago Jan 21st 1940. I know I have relatives still living in the Chicago area that I have since lost contact. Peoria being so close to Chicago makes me wonder if there is a blood connection between us. My parents James Carl Mulay and Dorothy Katherine Mulay moved our Family to Calif when I was in my early teens (1954) Where I grew to Adulthood. I worked for LA County Sheriff for almost 30 years retiring in 1994. I now live in Parker Arizona. My Father was The youngest of 3 brothers John Mulay who died when he was 17 in a vehicle/train accident well before I was born, My Father's other brother was named Tony and was married to Virgina. Tony and Virgina had two children. Toni a daughter who is now in her early 60's and lives somewhere near Chicago. Their son "Butch" whereabouts are unknown to me.He should be in his late 50's or early 60's. I haven't seen or heard from "Butch" since we were Youngsters. I don't know but there might be a link there to us. If so please hvae someone write to m e-mail address

Jim I'm saddened to tell you the jury gave not guilty verdicts on all three counts. Even though we feel justice was not served, we feel the loss of you far more than the legalities. Your boys are our lifeline to you. We see them often and they spend weekends with us often. We see you in their actions. Joey as you would expect loves to come to the farm. Jacob is also excited to be here. He loves to ride the tractors and especially the golf cart. Joey and Mary are very involved with them. Don't worry we will always be involved with them.
We love you and miss you so much.

Jim, Dont worry we are here taking care of the FAMILY. The verdict was not guilty on all charges. ONLY YOU knows the truth. May you watch over us and protect us in heaven as you did on earth. I miss you terribly, and know that are you will make justice prevail. The children are well taken care of and protected by us all. I wish I had the time with you here, but that wasn't meant to be. We love and miss you.

HAPPY 32 ND B DAY. STILL MISSING YOU.
August 12, 2004
Talked to your dad a few days back and he seems to be getting along. Not a day will go by that you're not thought of. Missing you!
June 30, 2004
It's hard to belive thats its been a year since you passed away. The pain is still here just not as bad. You would so proud of how far along Ive gotten, but I know you are looking down on me and everyone eles smiling. Theres not a day that goes by where I dont think about you and rember things you have done or said to make me smile. You will always be in my prayers and on my mind.
"How do I say goodbye to what we had?
The good times that made us laugh
Outweigh the bad.
I thought we'd get to see forever
But forever's gone away
It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.
I don't know where this road
Is going to lead
All I know is where we've been
And what we've been through.
If we get to see tomorrow
I hope it's worth all the wait
It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.
And I'll take with me the memories
To be my sunshine after the rain
It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday." Boy II Men

Well Jim, its hard to believe that it has been a year. You made such an impact on my life. Your knowledge, bravery, and your general approach towards life. Have helped to scope me into what I am today. I hope someday that I can become atleast half the man you are, and if I do it is because you are looking down on me and you want me to be. Through the good times, and the hard times you were always there.
"He did not lose his place in the minds of men because he was out of their sight."
John Henry Newman, Sermons
That is never so true in your case. You will be with all of us in mind, and spirit.
I look at this as not end, but as a beginning. With the knowledge you have given me, Im ready for anything life can throw at me. For someday our paths will cross again.

Well Jim it will be a year on Wed...I wil never forget hearing your voice on that last night or seeing your smiling face in the days before. I will always value the lessons you taught ppl and the way you got along with most everyone! You have left behind a legecy that will never be forgotten. You loved your kids more then anything in the world and you let that be known everyday by going out and protecting the innocent. You were taking from us too early, you had so much more to teach us. We will love you always Jim and we know you will always be there to watch over us in good times and bad. God bless you Jim for everything u have given us!

We are all thinking of you and your family this month as it will soon mark one year. Nobody has done more for the Peoria County Sheriff's Department then you. You are the TRUE Deputy of the year for 2003. Each and everyone of us know that.I know you are up in heaven shaken your head and laughing.
REST IN PEACE, YOU WILL NEVER BE
FORGOTTEN

It is always difficult to read the the tributes to fallen officers. This one especially so.
I can only wonder if we have family ties. Either way, we are brothers.
My prayers are with you and your family.
Rest in peace.

I just wanted to let you know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all. It has been nearly a year since the tragic loss of Jim Mulay, and no words of comfort could ever replace the active role he played in so many lives.
I did not know Jim personally, but I am, as a daughter of a cop and cousin to one killed in the line of duty, part of the police family. Jim will never be forgotten, and his love lives on in his family and everyone that he touched through his work.
It is still, I am sure, painful and every day a struggle. But remember that the measure of the pain is a tribute to the man you knew, and you will all one day be reunited.
God Bless

Jim I think about you daily and a lot of the time I find myself stopping by to check on your resting place. It all still does not seem real. I see your face every time a county squad car passes. When working overtime I look for you to come to say HI then to put your feet up on the desk and kick back in the chair. Life will NEVER be the same for alot of us, but one things for sure, in the short time you were here, you touched many lives and made a very big difference to an awful lot of people(even the ones we talked about). I knew you well enough to know you are up in heaven looking down at all of us and smiling and even laughing and shaking your head at a few. You will never be forgotten. You will be in our hearts forever. We love you Jim and always will.
Your true friend forever :)
