Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Bruce Kevin Lee

My deepest thoughts are with Dep. Lee's family. Rest in peace and may you never be forgotten.

Most people ask.....
Why do we do it?
Do we like the violence, the sorrow, and the pain?
Why do we take a job with little pay and even less respect?
When they ask this....I don't say a thing.
...Because they don't understand.
They don't understand that it's all about the men next to you...
...And thats all there is.

Brother, no greater love have a man than to lay down his life for
another. May you rest in eternal peace and watch over us.

Corporal John Halligan #8020
Philadelphia, PA Police Department

It hurts every time I click on this page and see more names of those lost. I think about the mothers, brothers, fathers, sisters. I think about the little boys and girls that won't know dad or mom. I do this for free, for I love doing this and giving something back to the community. I also pray everytime I go 10-41 that I will make it through another 8 hours. It's funny that most of the civillians take us (resreves) for granted but without us they would have no protection when they dial 911. God Bless you Deputy Lee, I salute you for your bravery and honor you for your courage. God Bless your Dept. and anyone who is hurting by you passing. Watch over us.

God Bless

Rest in Peace noble warrior. You have made us all proud.

Deputy Edward O. Barnett Jr., #368 (Retired)
Orange County Sheriffs Department

Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police, who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premisesof all its undesirables, look with kindly and professionaleyes on your earthly force.

Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for investigation and wise judgment.

Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores, strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.

You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences with the devil, that the police officer's lot on earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.

And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all the people. Amen.

Det Sgt C. L. Israel
East Point Police Department, Ga

I have been hit hard with this death. May Deputy Lee's wife know we are all behind her. I didnt know Bruce, but he wore the same uniform as my husband, and Deputy Lee gave his life to protect others. Something our husbands do on a daily basis not thinking twice of what he may find. I pray that the deputies will be blessed to carry on his name and what Bruce stood for. He will be truly missed. It saddens my heart that another family has to go through this. Its worse when it hits home. I pray for his wife and family and know we are thinking of them at this horrible time.
And for the deputies who worked with Bruce may you know you have another angel in "tans and green" watching over you..

Sadly another Deputy from Riverside County has died in the line of duty. Many of us made it through to retirement with a great department. Sadly, some will not.

To the family and friends of Bruce, even through we worked during the same time, I never had the chance to know him. That does not make your loss any less important.

Someday we will all meet again in a better place, but for now there is still busness to attend to for those peace officers who have been called to the profession of helping their fellow man. Those of us who are retired have passed the torch on to the younger men and woman of law enforcement to help the community. Some like Bruce had the torch snatched before their time.

Keep up the good fight, help your fellow man, and stay safe! Yours is the highest of callings.

Dwight Christensen Retired Detective
Riverside County sheriff

Godspeed Deputy Lee, we'll take the watch now for you.

Officer R. Francis
Tom Green County Sheriff's Department

Your bountiful dedication and devotion to duty is commensurate with your willingness and sacrifice upon wearing the badge. The men and women in uniform salute you for your honor, bravery, and service to your community and your country. May your sacrifice be the path to our everlasting desire for peace and goodwill amongst ourselves. Thank-You for standing tall.

Technical Sargeant Douglas Hermann
Washington Air National Guard

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow deputies of Deputy Lee.

While many of us in law enforcment wear different colored uniforms, we all share a common goal. We protect society from the criminal element. Rest well my friend, those of us who remain will cover your place on the thin blue line.

Please remember the fallen officers we have lost. Remember the men and women who died trying to make this world a safer and better place for us all to live in. Thank you Deputy Lee for a job well done. Please continue to watch over us and protect us as only you can. You will forever be at our side and in our hearts.

For those of you who still have loved ones with us please take the time to tell them how much you appreciate and care about them.

IF I KNEW

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Bruce be the be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Deputy Lee's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Please know that my thoughts are with you.

Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Bruce is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Bruce was well respected and well loved. Thank you for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please take care of my fiance Dennis.

Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!
