Reflections for Officer Scott Allen Hylton

I had the pleasure of being one of Scott's dispatchers and he was truly a blessing and an inspiration of the kind of person I would like to be. Very easy going and calm about everything, just enjoying every possibly thing about life. He touched every person he came in contact with in some way and I am thankful to be one of those people and I am thankful for the time we had with him. He will be truly missed.

Christiansburg Police Department

Scott was such a pleasure and a blessing to all he came in contact with. He touched many lives while he was here on earth with us and fortunately I got to be one of those lives touched. He will be truly missed by myself as I was just one of his 9 dispatchers. Rest in peace our fallen brother. We miss you!!!!

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow officers of Officer Hylton.

While many of us in law enforcment wear different colored uniforms, we all share a common goal. We protect society from the criminal element. Rest well my friend, those of us who remain will cover your place on the thin blue line.

Although I never met Officer Hylton I know that this is a tremendous loss for his family. Both his biological family as well as his family in law enforcement. My heart goes out to his wife and children as well as his co-workers. I know how fast my heart beats and how worried I get when one of my officers goes on a priority call; having never lost one of my own in the line of duty (and God pray I never will), I can not even begin to imagine how everyone feels. I hope that in time God can mend broken hearts and sprits. Know that there are always friends (both those you know and those you've never met) that are here for you.

My heart also goes out to those Communication Officers who were working when this terrible tragedy occurred. You are all in my prayers.

As I read through these reflections for Scott, it brought tears to my eyes. The devotion that all law enforcement officers have for each other is so very special. To read the words and hear the pain as people who had not even met him is very touching. I, as well as my husband, knew Scott. I want to leave this bit of remembrance especially for his little daughter. Scott had purchased a flag pole (which as I write this is at half mast at his home) from my place of employment. He came by to pay for it just a few days after his daughter was born. The joy in his eyes was amazing. He just beamed as he told me about his new little girl. If there has ever been a proud father, it was Scott! I think he talked for 30 minutes solid about her, his wife and his sons. He was so happy and content with his life. It is so sad that his life had to be taken so young. But I believe that God was ready for Scott to shine in Heaven. My prayers will be with his family.

I am a close friend of Scott Hylton and I think that it is low of the killer to shoot him over stupid stuff like stealing a pack of cigerates. and I hold no hatred towards him but i hope that god punishes him for his stupid acts. And my prayers are with Scotts family and hope that they will not greive for long that they will just try to get on with their lives that is what Scott would have wanted tem to do. And remember him in their hearts forever and keep him in mind.

Officer Hylton was a great officer, whom I enjoyed working with @ two agencies. He was always very calm, and had a great sense of humor that could always make you laugh. I will truly miss working with and being around Officer Hylton. God bless Scott's family and our prayers are with you.

You came prepared, to the end you'd fight.

My father was William Hilton(Hylton) and my Grandmother Mary Cummings Hylton all from Floyd co. I am Howard Hilton and my dad's family have lived in West Point Va. since end of WWII. My cousin Ralph Cummings has always and still lives in Christiansburg. I have to believe Scott and family are also my relatives. Our prayers go out to each and every one of you who grieve tonight.

Officer Hylton is a hero and a legend. He will be a reminder to other officers to always do their best, in honor and memory of the ultimate price that he paid. God bless his family and friends.
