Reflections for Detective Charles Randal Smith

B-Do,
It is not the same at the office without you here, we walk by your office and expect to see you sitting at your desk with that big beautiful smile you always had for us. We even miss you standing over our shoulders telling us to hurry with your statements, expecting it done in two minutes. We know you will always be with us, still watching over us, and we hope you know we are there for your family, who like us is so very proud of all you accomplished in the years you were with us. We love you, and you will never be forgotten.

I think of you everyday and miss that little laugh and the way you would make everything else go away. You were a great friend and I will never forget you. You always made me laugh after you sat through listening to all my problems and then you would tell me yours. We always ended our little "sessions" with a laugh and a good bye, see you later. We each had great advise for each other, that for sure. I expect to hear your voice on the phone or see you come in the office everyday. Sometimes I even find myself looking for you in the hall. I will always have you in my thoughts and prayers and you will remain a friend in my heart always

Deputy Smith you served your country well. The streets are a safer place due to the time you served. Your shift is over and rest well fellow man in blue. God bless your family and friends.

Please accept my condolences for Deputy Smith's untimely death. It angers me that in the pursuit of an aggressor, the aggressor's rights are frequently superior to that of the community against which he as assaulted. Far to often the process is more important to others than is the danger faced by those of us who enforce the community's chosen standards. I did not know Deputy Smith, probably Randy to his friends, nor the details of the case he was working. That said, I am confident Deputy Smith was cautious to protect the hoodlum's rights, in the end, causing his own death. I am sorry for that. I do understand it, but am sorrowful that Deputy Smith gave his life protecting the rights of the accused. Peaceful sleep blue brother.

Deputy Sheriff Chris Harper
Putnam County Sheriff's Office, GA

Rest in peace Brother Randy, you will never be forgotten.
