Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Eddie Mundo, Jr.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the sixth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. He was also your fellow Marine and I salute your service to our country as one of the few and the proud. Semper Fi, Eddie.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

To his parents: I share your anquish in losing a beloved son and know the meaning of lives forever altered. You are in my heart's embrace today.

Six long years have past, but it still seems like yesterday when I had the best friend anyone could ever hope for. I still think of you every day, but I remember the time will come when we can once again be friends. With Love...

Hard to believe it has been five years…seems like an eternity. Not a day goes by I do not think you. Your picture sits on my desk. I was blessed for our paths to have crossed.
The third verse of Ecclesiastes comes to mind: To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.
Take care my friend until the day we meet again.

Five years next month. It seems like an eternity, yet, like yesterday as well. We have so many new faces here since you left. Frank and I make sure they all know your story and heroism. Its one of the first things I do when training a new recruit is to take them to the spot and reflect. We only hope to have the caliber officer that you are, in them. I feel certain you would be proud of your little department and what it is becomming. Thanks for all you do and continuing to back us up, just as you did for me that night on the interstate while you were off duty.

Talk to you again later!!!!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I have just met Eddie's Mother at a Parent Survivor's retreat hosted by COPS. I did not know Eddie but meeting his mother and interconnecting with Luisa Mundo tells me that Eddie was a person to love and admire and it was my loss not to of known him.
Prehaps he has met up with my son Mariano "Rocky" Lemus,Jr and as both were good men, they are now buddies.

I stopped to leave a reflection for this hero. I know that he has not been forgotten as those that love him dearly think of him every hour of every day and will continue to do so. As a parent, I know the daily struggle his mother has as there is no greater loss than to lose a child. Continue to keep watch over your loved ones and those still out on patrol. you are a true hero and heroes never die. You will never be forgotten.

Eddie,
Unfortunately I never got to meet you, but I know your mom quite well. Your mother is so wonderful and strong. I know you are smiling down on her everyday; she can feel it. She fills my life daily with positivity, warmth and kindness. She is extremely proud of you and misses you very much. She and I talk about you all the time! I have also met your son Julian, and I would have to agree that he does in fact look just like you! He left your mom the cutest message today! He really loves his grandma!! She is leaving to go see him tomorrow and has been counting down the days. I am so glad that she has Julian in her life; her face radiates when she talks about him! Thank you for all your hard work and dedication in the police force. You are very missed. God bless you in Heaven always and forever, Katie Kremer
