Reflections for Inspector Raymond Joseph Giacomelli
To Ray, Maria, and his beautiful daughters:
As the Pittsburg Police Dept. family honors your memory with the wreath laying ceremony today, please forgive me for not physically being present. I am in L.A. where I presented Larry's memorial items for the LAPD officer who is riding for Larry on the Police Unity Tour. I am with you all in spirit and have lit a blue candle in your memory today on this the third anniversary date of your tragic death.

To Inspector Ray Giacomelli, his wife Maria and his two beautiful daughters, and his other loved ones:
Ray, you rescued us, saved our possessions, our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring.
This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.
Rest in Peace, Ray. I am humbled by your valor, courage, and dedication.
I know that you and Larry have forged a special bond just as our family has done with your family. We know that you guys are watching over your loving wives, your two most beautiful girls and baby Cody, your parents, your siblings, and your fellow officers.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the many years of distinquished service Ray gave to his community and the citizens of California, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on April 15, 2003.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Dear Ray: I know that you are watching over your beautiful wife and daughters and are truly proud of them for they are a wonderful family. They have been so supportive of our entire family
as we too have begun the difficult journey as police survivors. They were there to help welcome Cody into the world. Maria has been with us each step of the way.
You will never be forgotten and you will always be treasured. I proudly wear the 120 257 pin to honor you and Larry.

It has been a little more than two years since the loss of Ray. Our thoughts and prayers go out to This Officer, as well as the Family, Friends, Department and Community.
This is a loss that will never be forgotten. Hours will turn into days, days turn into weeks, weeks into months and months into years but, the difference that these officers have made will last forever.

I received a brief visitor last night, your beautiful wife Maria. She came to let us know of the dedication ceremony in Pittsburg today, 4/15/2005. Although we could not be there in person, we are there in thought and prayer. It has now been two years since you have been taken away. We remember, we remember each day and pray for your family and know that you are watching them and fellow Officers from above. My husband continues to carry your Memorial Card in his vest and knows the sacrafice you gave. Ray, keep watching. We miss you. God Bless

You paid the ultimate sacrifice doing what you loved the most. Though you are no longer here with us, we know you are still watching over us through the holes in the floor of heaven.
I never got to thank you for everything you taught me about life and being a good cop nor will I ever forget how lucky I was to have known such a great person. Your selfless acts touched us all.
THANK YOU RAY!

It has been a year since we have lost you, a hard year for many. You have never left our thoughts and prayers and for some of us, you have made us take another step back in the door for just one more smile, kiss or look. We never know what each day brings, but we can choose the life we live and leave behind. We are all better for knowing you.
Thanks Ray, for all the memories.
God Bless

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and coworkers of Inspector Giacomelli.
While many of us in law enforcment wear different colored uniforms, we all share a common goal. We protect society from the criminal element. Rest well my friend, those of us who remain will cover your place on the thin blue line.

To those who care,
Last year I attended a seminar in California with my Commander, Joe Breister and my Sergeant, Bill Haragan where we met Ray. In the few days that we spent together I can honestly say that the three of us not only met an outstanding cop, but met a great new friend. Ray and I had an opportunity to talk on the phone and email each other over the last few months. No matter how serious the nature of our conversation, Ray and I would find something to laugh about. That is a reflection of a good person and an individual I would want as a partner. To all those who served with Ray, you are lucky, I wish I could have done the same. To his family, whom he spoke about with unabashed love, there is no doubt that he is watching over you. It is a honor to have known this man and I will remember him always. When I start to doubt why I do this job, I will remember my friend and push ahead.

To the family of Officer Giacomelli, you should be very proud of him not only for his bravery his last day, but all he did for the community his 23 years of service! I too lost my father at a young age as a police officer killed in the line of duty, I was 21. Time will heal. He is in safe hands now, and a far better place. He would want nothing more than for you to keep living your lives taking one day at a time, and he would want you to make the world a better place just like he did. Even though the world is full of violence we can still make a difference. May God Bless you and your families. "Cast all your care on Him, for He careth for YOU"
