Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Philip Guy Billings
I Will truly miss you Phil. In the short time I knew you I enjoyed our conversations and your sense of humor. I consider this to be a loss for this agency and for the citizens of this county. Rest assure that you will not be forgotten by this deputy or any deputy from this agency. I will always have the highest respect for you and your family.

I worked right next door to Dep. Billings in District 10 for 2 and a half years. While I only knew him as a brief aquantaince, the loss of a brother Deputy pains me greatly. I'm 25 years old with a son and a pregnant wife, and during my employment with BSO I worked numerous off-duty details, and the news of this tragic incident has had a profound effect on me. I left Florida to be closer to my family, but I realize now that a big part of family still remains there. Like Dep. Billings, my watch was brief but nonetheless important. Being a Deputy Sheriff is not something that you do, it is something that you are and it is something that you take with you wherever you go. To all my BSO brothers and sisters, and to the family of Dep. Billings, please accept my sincerest condolences and know that my prayers are with you all.

My sister, Cindy, worked with Phillip at Marion County, OR Juvenile Detention and every one there is devastated by his loss. No one has had an unkind word to say about Phillip, they have only praised his amazing ability with juvenile offenders and have spoken of what a sweet, caring, fun person that he as. He is going to be sorely missed, not only by Broward County but by his f friends and former co-workers in Salem, OR. Thank you for a job well done and may God guide you on your journey Deputy Billings!!!!!! My prayers also go out to his family, and my hope is that they can take some small comfort in knowing that while he was here, Phillip did make a difference and is truely a hero t

My thoughts and prayers are with Deputy Billings family. I am a 27 year old, 16 months veterean of the force. Very close to age and experience to our fallen brother.
To all who do this job, thank you. We are a uncommon breed of people doing a job which doesnt always receive much praise. While our troops are fighting for our national security abroad, Deputy Billings and the rest of us are fighting to keep our residents safe at home.
Deputy Billings, his family and his fellow officers will be in my thougths and prayers.
May g-d grant Deputy Billings eternal peace and make us all stronger, to get through our next shift.
May g-d bless all who do this job.

Deputy Phillip Billings
Another soldier fell today
Another innocent man taken away
Long after dusk on April 6, 2003
A fatal event took place that left us all wonder how this could be
How could someone have so much nerve
To take the life of a deputy who was only doing his job to protect and to serve
The life of a 25 year old man with a life, a family, and a fiancé
But another lesson was learned today
Many of us watch our loved ones or friends go off to serve our country or community
But we rarely think of what may happen and what the result may be
We often think we are all invincible and nothing can happen to us
For the past two weeks all that's been on the television is news on the war
All you hear about is how much respect men and women in the forces get
But here at home were fighting our own battle where hardly any credit is received
Here in America we are living in a world fill with crime and lies
A world that no matter where you look, you'll meet accusing eyes
In my opinion Deputy Phillip Billings is a soldier and a hero
He put his life on the line to do his job and serve his people/community
He may never be on the news
Because of all the coverage on the war
I just hope you always remember it was our safety and well- being that he died for
Another soldier fell today
Another innocent deputy taken away
So many questions as to why
But no one will ever know except the man up high
We all wish he was here again today, even if it's only for one last good-bye
Even if he wasn't a soldier in the military
He lost his life doing a job well done
Though were all praying for him, his friends, and his family, if we never forget him his legend will live on
