Reflections for Chief Deputy Sheriff John Wesley Haygood

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 77th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Your selflessness in getting up from your sick bed to aid other officers is unmatched. Rest In Peace.

It took almost 60 years before he was honored by the State of Texas performing his responsibility in the line duty. What the article doesn't mention is that he served as previous acting Sheriff of Uvalde, Co. Texas, and, that he was sick in bed with pneumonia when the acting sheriff came to his home and asked for his assistance since he (Haygood) had previous encounters with the suspect.

Chief Deputy Sheriff Haygood,
On today, the 72nd anniversary of your murder, I would like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Uvalde County. It took another 5 months, but your murderer finally got the justice that he deserved.
