Reflections for Sergeant David Paul Land

May God hold you in a special place and watch over your family forever brother....................

Trooper
Pennsylvania State Police

Another fine officer just doing his job who left this earth too soon. Thank you Sgt. Land for protecting and serving the citizens of Forsyth County. You will truly be missed by all those whose life for which you made a difference.

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family, friends and coworkers. Somehow they will pick up the pieces of their shattered lives and continue their journey of life.

Although I am not a certified law enforcement officer as some of you that have left messages here, I wanted you to know how some of the non-certified staff who worked with David at the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office felt about him. To some of the female staff such as myself who are old enough to be David's mother, he was the son that we wished we had. He always put "Miss" in front of our names when he addressed us, it was always "yes ma'am" , and we always got a hug. How he brightened our day each time we saw him! I know I speak for every female employee of the Sheriff's Office when I say how much we loved him and how unbelievably much we will miss him.

We miss you "Bubba"...you touched so many lives in so many ways. You always greeted me with a great big hug. From the days of seeing you in the hallways at Redan, at the Mountain on your bike to the last time I saw you in August 2000 at our 10 year reunion. You have talked me through some rough times in my life. I offer your friends, co-workers and family the deepest thoughts and prayers. You are truly what a dear friend is... you will be missed by us all... !! Everyone knew Bubba...and everyone loves you and misses you!!

My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and David be the be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Sergeant Land's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out especially to his wife and daughter. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Please know that my thoughts are with you.

Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that David is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain David was well respected and well loved. Thank you for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please take care of my fiance Dennis.

Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!
