You will not be forgotten brother.

The last time I talked to you was Friday night (03/14/2002) around dinner time. You were cutting up Liz and Phil Jr's fishsticks while resolving an argument about which child got to use the new purple sippy cup. I was was just picking up my mail and may have been a little rushed, but you still made sure I sat down and ate something with the kids. You asked me where my mother's birthday gift was as you pointed at the dozen roses on the dining room table that you bought her. you were giving me a hard time in a joking manner, but you just wanted to make sure I didn't forget her gift. I then rushed out as quickly as I arrived. I was there less than 20 minutes and that is the last time I talked to you. It is obvious to everyone that you were a devoted police officer-you sacrificed your life to serve your community. I thank you for all the happiness you brought to my mother's life. Your love for myself and all my siblings will never be forgotten, I'll make sure of that. I miss you, love Karl

Although your not with us
We know your still there
We might sometimes feel you, in a gust of fresh air
Your memory will carry on in our hearts
The love that connected us
Shall never part
The city was safer with you on the job
Keepin us safe from those who murder and rob
We know your still watching
Keeping us safe and serene
To know you was like being part of a dream

Sergeant Philip O'Reilly, thank you for your devotion to duty and working to make your county a safer place. May God grant your family, friends, and brothers and sisters in arms closure and comforting peace. They can rest easy knowing that you have now moved on to the ultimate duty, patroling the streets of heaven under God's command. Thank you again, and God speed to your assignment.

Sgt. Phil,
Although I never had the pleasure of meeting you personally, I feel that I know you nonetheless. You are a "brother in blue" --a part of the 'thin blue line' that makes law enforcement officers throughout the nation FAMILY. I will pray for you and all my brothers and sisters who made the "ultimate sacrifice" this past year. I encourage all law enforcement members to pay tribute to our fallen FAMILY in Washington D.C. this and every year during "Police Week" 11 thru 17 May. God Bless and Rest in Peace.

My deepest sympathy to the friends and family of Sgt. O'Reilly. It is never easy to lose someone so close and dedicated as a brother in blue. Just remember him in your thoughts and memories. He's still on duty, watching over each of us fighting the good fight everyday.

Another life taken by a careless truck driver. When will these guys learn to slow down and concentrate on what they are doing? My heart breaks for Sgt. O'Reilly's family, friends and department. It's such a shame that this driver has taken a life away from so many people and he probably will never even spend a night in jail. Yet the loved ones will spend many nights in a jail of their own...a jail of heartache, tears and loneliness. I've been in that jail and still fight my way out of it every day. My heart and prayers are with you as you begin this difficult journey. Since I lost my first husband in a similar way, one of the officers of C.P.D. has been there on-line to show me support and share the trials of going through the struggle of learning to live again. To her I say thanks and I hope she will be able to help your family also. May God wrap his loving arms around you and guide you in the days ahead.

My deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Sergeant O'Reilly. You all will be in our prayers. The thin blue line is a little thinner with his passing but those left behind will close rank and carry on.

To the O'Reilly Family,
It has been one day since we stood in the rain and said our goodbyes to Phil. I will never forget his leadership as he knew when to intervene and when not to. His example of puncuality (or lack of) will always make me laugh.
We will NEVER foregt him......

My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Philip be the be the last to die this way.
Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Sergeant O'Reilly's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out especially to his wife and children. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Please know that my thoughts are with you.
Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Philip is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Philip was well respected and well loved. Thank you for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please take care of my fiance Dennis.
Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!

Please remember the fallen officers we have lost. Remember the men and women who died trying to make this world a safer and better place for us all to live in. Thank you Sergeant O'Reilly for a job well done. Please continue to watch over us and protect us as only you can. You will forever be at our side and in our hearts.
For those of you who still have loved ones with us please take the time to tell them how much you appreciate and care about them.
IF I KNEW
If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.
If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.
If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.
If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.
If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.
For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.
There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"
But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.
So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,
That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.
So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear
Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

Sarge - Thank you for setting the standard for us "young guys," and for showing us how to have fun at work. Losing you leaves a void in our hearts and in our city that can't be filled. Rest in peace brother, your legacy lives on every night at 2300 hours (okay, about 2330 hours or so, while wearing something that vaguely resembles the proper uniform).
