My dearest brother in law as we gathered today for the Annual Fallen Officers Memorial Service, there were so many treasured and fond memories of you floating in my thoughts.
Your dedication to family and career was impeccable. You are truly missed and loved very much!!! It’s difficult to believe it’s been 16 long years since I had to say farewell to ~my~ “Best Bro in Love” ever. Our family hasn’t been the same without you. Thanks for loving and taking care of all who loved you....family, fellow officers, the community and those who decided to disrespect the law. Your heroism and service is honored today, the seventh anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. Anyone who spent 41 years in law enforcement deserves the highest accolades for a job well done. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I HAVE ALOT OF GOOD MEMORIES WITH OFFICER WIGGINGS HE WAS MORE THAN A FRIEND I CONSIDER HIM FAMILY HIS DEATH REALLY TOUCH MY HEART I USED TO HAVE LUNCH WITH HIM QUITE ALOT AT RYANS RESTAURANT EVERYTIME I DRIVE BY THERE I REMEMBER HIM WE MEET TROUGH MUTUAL OFFICERS WE NEVER RODE TOGETHER BUT HE ASSISTED THE OFFICERS I WAS WORKING WITH, HE WAS AN EXCELLENT PERSON I THINK ABOUT HIM ALL THE TIME HE IS ALWAYS GOING TO BE IN MY HEART AND I KNOW HE IS WATCHING ALL OF US FROM HEAVEN , HE HAD AN EXCELLENT PERSONALITY AND EVEN THOUGH WE DIDNT RODE TOGETHER WE BECAME VERY GOOD FRIENDS AND TALK ALL THE TIME I THINK ABOUT HIM ALOT HE WAS A ROLE MODEL AND WAS LIKE A FATHER FIGURE TO ME SINCE I NEVER DID HAD ONE I USED TO ASK HIM FOR ADVISE AND HE WAS ALWAYS THERE TO TALK TO ME. HE WAS VERY PROUD OF HIS SON CAREER IN FOOTBALL AND HE WAS ALWAYS INVITING ME TO GO TO THE GAMES HIS SON PLAY FOOTBALL WITH HIM AND EVEN THOUGH WE NEVER WORK TOGETHER WE BECAME VERY GOOD FRIENDS AND WE BECAME LIKE A FAMILY, I TALK TO HIS FAMILY AS HIS SERVICES BUT ITS WAS HARD FOR ME TO CONTAINED MY EMOTIONS BECAUSE LIKE I SAID HE WAS LIKE A FATHER FIGURE TO ME. The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Wiggins I always remember your smile your attitude was always positive I remember you always joking around, we became friend even though we never rode together I meet you via mutual friends the saddest day of my life I was at my job and got on the internet and saw on the news what had happen, I stop working I just didn’t know what to do I was in so much shock, but I had a lot of good memories with you, I know you where proud of you kids and family I got to Meet them after your passing and you where right they where great, Thanks for always inviting me to lunch regardless of who I was working with on those particular days, I cant go past the substation and the former Ryan’s with out thinking of you, You are truly and example to all PTLM, Officers,,explorers and all of those who knew you. You are in heaven and might not be here with us but you will never be forgotten
you got to meet my family and we all think of you all the time! keep a watch over all of those who serve out here because they could use a guardian Angel like you to lead them to safety! Around the Greyhound bus station he was known as Wiggins....sometimes we were formal and called him Officer Wiggins. I believed he loved his job there as much as he did patrolling the streets.

I can still see him walking through with his boots on and that cool walk.

On this the third anniversary of your tragic death, please know that you are remembered and honored. Your courage and dedication will never be forgotten.
You must have lived and breathed law enforcement to have spent so many years in the profession. I can only imagine how many officers you mentored and how many citizens you served.
