Reflections for Detective Rodney J. Andrews
Detective Rodney J. Andrews,
I had the opportunity to visit your unit and peers during a trip to N.Y. with our Dept. boxing team. What an honor! May God grant your family the courage and strength that you lived by.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.
Tonight March 10, 2004 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Det. Rodney J. Andrews and Det. James V. Nemorin who died in the line of duty on this date one year ago.
When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.
Det. Andrews & Nemorin's sacrifice will never be forgotten.

I want to thank Det Andrews, his partner Det Nemorin, and their families, for the tremendous sacrifice and contribution, these brave men have made for our safety. I have no doubt they are with God, because they have faced the devil with courage and honor. Their dedication and commitment to duty will not be forgotten, or unnoticed. They have made a difference. God Bless.

I would just like to leave my condolences to Detective Rodney J. Andrews' family and friends. You are in my prayers. My father was also killed in the line of duty in June of 2002. The following poem was sent to me and gave me some comfort, I hope it does the same for you.
"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders
and said, "No Lord. I guess I ain't.
Because those who carry badges,
can't always be a saint."
"I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough...
and sometimes I've been violent
because the streets are awful tough."
"But I never took a penny,
that wasn't mine to keep...
though I worked a lot of overtime
when the bills got just too steep."
"And I never passed a cry for help,
though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I wept unmanly tears."
"I know I don't deserve a place
among the people here.
They never wanted me around
except to calm their fear."
"If you've a place for me here, Lord,
it needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But, if you don't...I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne,
where saints had often trod,
as the policeman waited quietly
for the judgement of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on heaven's streets.
You've done your time in hell."

I read somewhere that cowards die everyday and Heros just once, you guys are Heros in the truest sense of the word, and the cowards who cut your lives short will face the Creator someday. You have fought your battle with honor and courage, now you get to rest. To your families and friends, my prayers are with all of you now and in the future. Words are so shallow when you are hurting, and we who have lost a fellow brother by a cowards hand know your pain. The good times will bring smiles at unexpected moments to help ease the hurting hearts...
Thank you, Detective Andrews, thank you....

My prayers will be with this fine Officer and his partner, who were unforgivenly taken from us too soon. As we fight this war on terrorism, we still pray for our brothers and sisters in L.E. This makes me sad to see that a Protector of Peace can be taken be the evils of this world. For the Families of these two fine officers, we pray for you as well. Know that they were heros. Very Sincerely, SA Gary Wolter, and the US Army. God Bless.
