Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Michael Eron Shannon

Mikeee
He was one of a kind. His attention to detail, his sense of humor, his hand writing, and his ability to make anyone he came in contact with feel good about themselves. He was one of my trainers in dispatch and he was so patient. The thing I will miss most about Mikeee is his humor. He would always tease me about being older than dirt and being around before the wheel was invented. But always with a smile and laugh. All the hours we sat in dispatch together, and all the times he would click his pen, these are times that I will forever hold dear. Mikeee I will miss you.
Linda

Mikee,

You were a part of my life for only ten years, but you will be in my thoughts and prayers forever. I will dearly miss you but know that we will meet again, my friend. May you rest is peace.

Deputy Sheriff, Linda Klafka (Arendt)
Washburn County Sheriff Dept. WI

On behalf of all of us at WI Dells PD, our hearts go out to Mike's family, friends, and fellow deputies at ADSO.

K-9 Officer Brian Landers
Wisconsin Dells Police

Although I did not know Deputy Shannon, I did attend his funeral. What a sad, sad day. And as I looked around at the law enforcement officer's from around the stated, most crying, I couldn't help but smile. Not out of disrespect, but because I could think of only one thing.

My husband is also a deputy sheriff. And he has told me not to mourn him when he dies. For he will be in cop heaven. The ultimate cop paradise, where we can go to lunch with lights and sirens, where there are no "somebody hit my mailbox" reports to take, where all the bad guys tell the truth, and where there is no paperwork at the end of the day.

So as I sat there, I could only think that Mike is in a better place than we are. I imagined him in cop heaven, where he does everything he loves about the job, and nothing he doesn't.

God Bless you, my brother.

Officer Aimee Kontos
Waupaca Police Department

I went to High School with Mike, and remember how well liked he was. I was not suprised to hear how well liked he was in Adams County. He was a great Deputy and will be missed by all. My condolences to his family and friends, and the Adams county sheriff's department.

National Police Prayer

Almighty God, Father of all Mercies, we ask Thy blessing and guidance on all law enforcement officers engaged in the protection of our citizens. Be with them in their lonely tours of duty while patrolling the busy streets of our cities and the remote areas of our country. Give them the blessing of your wisdom, to know and do what is right. Temper their actions with mercy and justice. When their tours are completed and the day is over, guide them safely home to their loved ones.

We ask Thy blessing and eternal rest to all our brothers who have sacrificed their very lives in the performance of their duties. Give to their loved ones the peace and strength to bear the anguish of their loss. Remove all resentment from their hearts, knowing that eternal peace and rest will abide their departed loved ones forever. This we beg Thy name forever and ever, Amen.

I am glad that I had known Mike. May his friends and family remember that God is with us just as surely as Mike is with Him.

Det. Phyllis Wesener
Wisconsin Rapids Police Dept.

Their voice we hear, their smile we see, but when silence is heard, a tear is forever shed.

Thank you for your dedication and protection you have provided to so many!

Dispatcher Kim Wollock
Stevens Point Police

Mike was a very respectable officer. He helped even those who he was ticketing and I knew him almost my full life, for he was one of my dad's best friends. Though I was not best friends with him, I still felt a great loss and mourning for him. And for his killer I know God will give him his just deserve. May Mike Shannon Rest In Peace.

Deputy Michael Shannon,

You were an absolute credit to the badge and treated your calling to law enforcement with the highest level of honor, integrity and dedication. Though you paid the ultimate price in carrying out your oath for Adams County and the Adams County Sheriff's Department, your legacy as a top-notch law enforcement officer will be with all of us....always!

To your family, both at home and at Adams County Sheriff's Department, we extend our deepest thanks and appreciation for all you did to keep our law enforcement shield shining. You are a shining example to all of us who wear the badge, of what a law enforcement officer should be.

You will be greatly missed.........

Sheriff Kurt D. Heuer
Wood County Sheriff's Department

I didn't Michael either, but certainly felt the pain of his death. What a brave young man. His family must feel very proud.

Go rest high on that mountain, Officer Shannon ... your work on earth is done.
May God bless the family and friends you have left behind.

A Greatful Citizen
Wisconsin Rapids, WI

The Day God Called You Home

God looked around his garden of beautiful people
and he found an empty place
He then looked down upon this earth
And saw your wonderful face.

He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest
Gods garden must be beautiful
He only takes the best.

He only takes the ones who
Find the time to help anther in need
Whether it’s their job
Or the way they live their life.

He only takes the ones
He knows has spent their time on earth
Spreading kindness and love.

He only takes the ones that
Have the wisdom to do great things
And the ones who take the time
To pass that wisdom on.

It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn’t go alone
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.

Written in Memory of Officer Mike Shannon .

I don’t Know officer Shannon as well as all of you do but about a year ago I would see him in Kwik Trip almost every night. Other then me asking him how his night was I never really talked to him. I’m only 21 and as a kid I’ve done a lot of stupid things and as you can guess I got into trouble. Any police officer that gave me a ticket I looked at as a jerk giving me a hard time and was taking my money until I met Officer Shannon. Thanks to my bad choice of friends I got to speak to officer Shannon quite a bit and on one occasion he had to arrest me. All I did was be honest and straight forward with him. Officer Shannon did everything he could to help me get out of jail sooner. After that anytime he saw me or my wife he would always ask how we were doing or say hi. My only point to this story is everybody here has known Mr. Shannon for years and I’ve only got to speak to him briefly but in that brief time he made a big impact on my life. I may slip up from time to time and still get into trouble but now I will always have respect for all police officers.

I used to wish I didn’t do the dumb things I’ve done but if I hadn’t done these things I never would have met this great man. If it weren’t for Mike Shannon I would not be getting my life on the right track. I have read about Officer Shannon in the local newspaper countless times about something he had done for other people. My impression of Officer Shannon is that he respected everyone no matter what they had done wrong and he would help anyone without forming an opinion about you for the mistakes you may have made. He was a very forgiving and kind man, his life and passion was to help and protect everyone in his community. Only if we had more people like Officer Shannon…our community would be perfect! I only wish I could be more like Officer Shannon. The way he lived his life and treated everyone has inspired me to live better and to help treat everyone around me with more respect.

I’m sure Officer Shannon has impacted others as he did me and his family can be very proud of him.

Deputy Shannon - You gave the ultimate sacrifice. I did not personally know you, we both are alumni from UW-Platteville who chose Law Enforcement over other careers. Cops go to calls that others would not go to for a million dollars...and sometimes we don't go home to our families. Sad but true. I grant you and your family peace...now and forever.

Capt. Scott McClory
Walworth County Sheriff - Elkhorn WI

Mikee,
You've been a friend, a menter, a helper and the list goes on.
I still feel numb when I think of you leaving us that day. You died doing what you knew was right, and that is how you lived your life. I looked forward to you comming through the window to help me cook or do the dishes. I always called you the angel. I can't put into words the hurt and emptyness I feel in side. You are one in a million.
Till we meet again!
I Love and miss you brother,
stu.

I've heard it said that reporters forget the stories they cover, and the
people they've written about. That's not true. I know I will not forget
Michael Shannon, a man I never met.

Rest in peace.

As a suspect awaits final justice, Mike has gone on to final reward. That leaves the extended family of law enforcement with only memories of another hero taken from us far too soon. We grieve not for Mike, because we believe he now sits in a sweet repose of Gods making, no longer walking in the hell of our making. We grieve for ourselves for there is an empty patrol car on our beats, an empty seat at our briefings, and an empty locker, where once there was a hero, who worked and played with us and gave us courage. God speed Mike.

Deputy R Starks

The deputy sheriff stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, you deputy,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The deputy squared his shoulders and
said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry guns
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep ...
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here,
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As the deputy waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God,
Step forward now, you deputy,
You've borne your burdens well,
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

Rest in Peace Mike, you will never be forgotten!

Deepest sympathy and condolences to the family, friends, and co-workers of Deputy Sheriff Michael E. Shannon. May God be with you all during these difficult times. Rest assured he is in a much better place now.

As I sit and read all these wonderful words people have written for Mikee with tears running down my cheeks, I can see see his infectious smile shining through those tears. I can hear his laughter and know that he is in a better place looking down at us all and keeping us safe. He left us so abruptly and so senselessly. God must have needed one of the good guys up there with him. Well I know he got the best when he chose to take our Mikee! I will forever miss hearing # 17 on my radio. I will miss his wave as I pass him on the roads.
Mike thank you for giving so unselfishly of yourself in everything you did. keep watch over Tim and the rest of the crew---- we need them!

A Friend

When a cop goes out on shift, he/she hopes they can do their job with courage and forthright. When they come home, they hope they have done it well and will not be found lacking. They look for ways to help their people and almost feel a sense of disappointment if there were none who needed their brand of service at some time during their shift. Michael Shannon was one of those who looked for ways to lend a hand above and beyond the call. He lived to be that special cop. He'll be one hard person to replace. Rest well good brother.

There is no way that words can possibly express how any of us feel. I am blessed to have known you and will miss you always.

For a friendship lost my eyes mist
taken away by fates cruel twist

For time spent together I am glad
your senseless loss makes me sad

Though pictures will begin to fade
memories of you will remain

One last thing before I cease
we love you buddy rest in peace

Although I did not know Deputy Shannon there is nothing more heartwrenching than when we lose a fellow law enforcement family member. It was a true honor to be a part of Deputy Shannon's Memorial this past Tuesday. May he rest in peace and may peace of mind and heart come to those in his Adam's County family.

Officer Crystal Sedevie
Holmen Police Department

Mikee

You truly were a friend amongst friends and a brother amongst brothers. You have been away just a short time and I still speak with heavy heart when I say how much I miss you. No one can ever make sense of the reason you were taken from us, and the only thing that can bring us comfort is knowing that you will always live in our hearts and minds.

Having known you since we were just kids, I will always speak of you with honor and respect. Your positive outlook on life and dedication as an officer stregthens my own resolve to become a better person and officer.

Emptiness will now be a part of my life until we meet again and I can truly smile.

I will see you in my dreams my friend and brother.

Love always

"Somebody killed a policeman today"
And a part of america died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect.
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
with council demanding his rights.
The beat that he walked was a battelfield, too,
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookies side.
He answers the call and gave us his all,
And a part of america died.

God bless you Mikey, you will forever be in our thoughts....

Deputy

Deputy Michael Shannon, may god be with you, and your family. And may you watch over all your brothers and protect them. God bless you. REST IN PEACE.
