Reflections for Lieutenant Glenn Harold Hicks
Dear Glenn, this was our first christmas with out you, we sure did miss your laughing, and making christmas so special, it sure was hard with out you, but we know that you celebrate the best christmas you ever had, because you celebrated it in heaven with Jesus and with you parents. You always did enjoy watching your grand kids on christmas morning opening there gifts from you, giving was always more important to you then receiving. We Love you and miss you so much , but we know that one day we will be togeather again on heavens bright shore. To all who may read this reflection, we appreciate all your prayers and our hearts go out to all whom have went through the loss that our family has. If Glenn could say anything to you he would say to make heaven your home it will be worth it.

Lt. Hicks,
I didn't know you, but I've heard much about you from a couple of mutual friends, and I thank The Lord Jesus that you were a man of God, and a Christian witness. I'm proud of you, and I know your family is, too. Thank you for your sacrifice, and tell the Lord "hey" for me, would you, please?

In Memory of my Friend,
You are my Big Brother that I never had, You always took time to worry over my well-being more than your own. I only had the previlage to share 4 years of your life here on earth, even in that short amount of time, you came to be loved as much as any member of my family. I know you are watching over us all now, but I can't help but miss your friendship. We shared a lot of time on patrol, and during that time you truly touched my heart, strengthened my faith, and set an example that I have strived to follow. I never got the oppertunity to tell you just how much you have touched my life, and how thankful I am to have been your Friend. Your spirit lives on every day, and I will be there with you someday. You will always be remembered, and you have always been my Best Friend.

My fathers name was also Glenn very much a great man. From all the reflections I have read of Lt. Hicks he too was a great man. I know he will be missed, may his family and friends find comfort and strength in knowing that he is a true hero with courage beyond normal men and he will never be forgotten.
Rest in peace Brother Glenn. You and my Dad will have alot in common in heaven. I know you will become friends and watch over all of us.

To Donna, John, Alicia, Wade, Harry & Betty,
I thank our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ for the time that he gave us with Glen. I first met Glen when he was a student in Basic Law Enforcement Training. Glen and Wade were two of my favorites. Both were a joy to be around.
Glen was a true friend and his memory is one that I shall cherish the rest of my life. It is difficult to understand why Glen was taken from us this year but, I know that God has a reason. Our God is riteous and sovreign.
As I have read the prior listings of well wishes I was struck by the number that spoke of Glen as a good cop and a good man. Glen was a good cop and a true public servant that loved his job. It is nice to be able to say that a man was a good cop because to be a good cop you first have to be a good man. Glen was a good man. Glen was not good because of anything that he did. Glen was a good man because of what Christ did in him. More than being good man, Glen was a Godly man. There are very few people that we can point to and say there is a Godly man. Without reservation I can say that Glen was a Godly man.
Again, I am thankful for the time that I was allowed to know him and call him friend.
You are in my prayers. May God continue to bless and confort you as he already has.

It is a sad sad thing when a fellow officer dies especially in the line of duty. I just read about you Brother Hicks and I have to say the mental call hits home here in Chesterfield as we also lost an officer to a mental patient of the same mindset. I pray that your family will have closure but rest assured you did not die in vain. As an officer now I try to learn from other mistakes and share them with other fellow officers so that we may become better police officers because of heroes like you. Keep plugging, all of us carrying a badge must always remind ourselves never to forget those who have come before us.

Godspeed brother...... God bless your ultimate sacrifice and may God watch over your family.
My good friend was present when you assailant was taken into custody and I wanted to let your family know that we were all praying for you when the incident occured. I could tell from the tone in my friends voice that you were a good officer and that making the arrest without additional loss of life was a Godsend.

Glen:
Hello my friend. A big crew of us from Avery and Watauga are going to Charlotte this Friday, to Annual Peace Officer's Memorial Day Ceremony, in honor of you and Bob Kennedy and our fallen brothers and sisters.
I miss cutting up and joking with you. I don't know who will do my body work now LOL!!
John is doing ok, he misses you. Donna is the same, but she is a strong woman and her faith in Christ is helping her and the rest of the family. Harry will do well in retirement. I was glad that Wade decided to stay with the Sheriff's Office. Some of the officers from that day might have quit, but I'm glad they stayed in the ring. You wouldn't have wanted anyone to quit on account of you I know.
I miss hearing you on the radio. They retired your number, so it isn't the same not hearing a baritone voice calling in : 116 Avery.....
Hmm. We got in the new house, you were right, the old place was way too small. Connie let me keep my Mustang, so despite your dire predictions, I still have my toy. Hah hah!
I still see some of your basic school class members now and again. That was a fun recruit class. We all think of you so much. We wil all be together Friday and you will be with us. Watch over us my friend. We have not forgotten you.

OFFICER DOWN........The one phrase a dispatcher never wants to hear, echoed through our quiet mountain community on Feb.20,2003.On that day,Avery County lost one of it's finest.Glen was the type of officer that understood that things never run like a well oiled machine. He never got angry if you flipped the numbers on a tag by mistake. He understood, that sometimes the NCIC would go down, and you might not be able to give a read back on a tag at that particular moment, but he new as soon as it did come back,it would be printed and you would ask if he needed it.He always tried to take the time to stop by and just say Hi,How have you been ?He treated communications as equals and not "just dispatchers. It never failed,if you were having a bad day,he would either stop by,or call ,and could have you laughing in no time.He is missed dearly. To Donna,John,Alicia, and the kids,my thoughts and prayers are with you.Just know he will never be forgotten.

I am so sorry to learn of your loss. My ex-husband, Jay Carruth, whom I was married to for 8 years, and father of my two precious little girls, was also killed on February 20. What a sad, shocking day it was for us all. I hope that Jay and Lt. Hicks met in heavan that day and will keep one another company until we get there to reunite with them again.
