There are but two persons who protect the sinful human race from destroying itself. One is God's Holy Spirit. The other is the Peace Officer. Without them, we would all perish at each other's hands.
According to Romans 13.1-5...
God ordains the Peace Officer’s profession.
The Peace Officer is sent by God.
The Peace Officer is vested with God's authority to enforce the law.
A Peace Officer's badge is to be honored by us, because it is honored by God.

To the Family of Officers Jay Carruth and David Ezernack
and the Alexandria Police Department, your extended family of Law Enforcement Officers grieve with you during this time. Though our badges are different, rest in peace with the other fallen Heros, my brother. We will continue the fight in your honor.

The sacrifice you made speaks volumes for the bravery of yourself, and of all those who wear the sheild.

Rest well, young man, for God has a special place for those who keep His children safe.

Officer Ezernack thank you for your devotion to your department, community, family, and friends. You are a perfect example of someone giving their all and paying the ultimate sacrifice. You now join Heaven's Finest, you have finished your watch... I hope that your family will find some solace in knowing that all of us in the LE family will be keeping them in our prayers daily...

My prayers go out to to Officer Ezernack's family both of blood and color of law. It is a very sad day for all of us in law enforcement as we have lost three brothers in the line of duty on 02/20/03. May we rest easy knowing three fine officers are now on a new patrol above us all. Thank you, Ofc Ezernack, for you gave all in the line of duty.

The funeral line was long,
There's an awful lot of cars,
Folks came out of the restaurants,
They came out of the bars.
The workers at the construction sites,
All let there hammers drop.
Someone asked. " What is this all for ?"
And they said, " Aw, just a cop "

Some chuckled at the passing cars.
Some shed a silent tear
Some people said "It's stupid."
"all these dumb policemen here."
" How come they are not out fighting crime?"
"Or in a doughnut shop?"
" Sure is a lot of trouble "
For someone who's just a cop.

They blocked the intersections,
They blocked the interstate.
People yelled and cursed,
"Damn, it's gonna make me late!"
"This is really ridiculous!"
"They're makin' us all stop!"
"It seems they are sure wastin' time,
On someone who's just a cop."

Into the cemetry now,
The slow procession comes,
The woeful Taps are slowly played.
There's loud salutes from guns.
The graveyard workers shake their heads
"This service is a flop."
" There's lots of good words wasted,
On Someone who's just a cop"

Yeah, just a cop to most folks.
Did his duty every day.
trying to protect us,
Till they took his life away.
And when he got to heaven,
St.Peter put him to the top.
An angel asked him,
" Who was that?"
And he said, " Aw, just a cop."

It is at a rapid rate that we are digging graves for our brothers in blue. May you rest in peace.
To the family no one truly knows the pain that u are feeling at this moment. Just rest assured that we are with u in this time of sorrow.

REST IN PEACE

My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will David be the be the last to die this way. Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Officer Ezernack's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Please know that my thoughts are with you.

Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that David is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain David was well respected and well loved. Thank you for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please take care of my fiance Dennis.

Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!

May God be with your friends and family during this time. May you rest in peace and watch over your brothers and sisters as you stand watch from above.
Godspeed

THE POLICEMAN'S LAST ROLL CALL ...

THE POLICEMAN STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD, WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS. HE
HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING, JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS. "STEP FORWARD
NOW, POLICEMAN. HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU? HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER
CHEEK? TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"

THE POLICEMAN SQUARED his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a Saint. I've had to
work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I've been
violent because the streets are awfully tough. But I never took a penny that
wasn't mine to keep, though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just
got to steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though times I shook with
fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept many unmanly tears. I know I
don't deserve a place among the people here, they never wanted me around
except to calm their fear. If you've a place for me Lord, it needn't be so
grand. I never expected or had too much, but if you don't, I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod. As
the policeman waited quietly, for the judgement of his God. "Step forward
now, policeman, you've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on Heaven's
streets, you've done your time in hell."
