Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Captain Jerry Kenneth Best

I salute you for your service and honor you for your sacrifice.

A hero never dies.....

Rest in peace, hero.

Captain Best, Once again a loved one that was taken from us all to soon. I did not know Capt. Best all that well, but my wife was an investigator under his command. She was always telling me how much of a great boss, listener and friend he was, and the few conversations I had with Capt. Best you could tell her description of him was dead on accurate. Like the poem says " You've done your time in hell, now walk a beat in Heaven". rest in Peace capt. you will never be forgotten.

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).

We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.

These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.

...Gone, but never Forgotten....

I was a friend and co-worker of Jerry K. Best for 12 years. Jerry was larger than life, both in statute and heart. He became my friend when I first joined the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Jerry always had time to talk, teach, or lend support when I needed a friend. His good ol'e country boy approach to life made him special. On May 25th, 2003 I visited the Police Memorial in Washington D.C. Viewing Jerry's name on the wall of honor was very difficult. Our motorcycle club, the Nam Knights of America, recognized all fallen officers nationwide on that day. I honored Jerry by calling out his name in a rememberance ceremony. I will continue to call out Jerry's name every year. He will not be forgotten, if we keep his memory alive in our hearts.

Oh, how very sad! And since this just happened in Nov. I know the pain is still very fresh. It will be 3 months tomorrow. I wish I could think of something to say to comfort you, but realize this is a God size task. He is the healer and redeemer.
I pray that He holds you in the palm of His hand and supplies all your needs in Christ Jesus. He loves you so very, very much and He feels your sorrow as much as you do. May His presence be very real to all of you in your season of grief. God bless. Thank you Capt. Best for your many dedicated years of faithful service!

You know......how thoughtful of a man to put another creature out of its misery. Just a simple good deed led to an unfortunate incident. It took a while for you name to appear here, but deserving of its honor, you are. May you know rest in a better place than here.

I come to this site everyday and it never ceases to amaze me at the dedication my brothers and sisters in Law Enforcement give to their communities every day in the course of our jobs. Whether city, county, or rural every officer I have read in this site have given their lives for their fellow man. I know God is rewarding them, but it is terribly sad to read some of these reflections and the pain of the ones left behind. Please know we are praying for you, Mrs. Best, and to Captain Best, thank you for your selfless service.
