Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Sheila Herring

I haven't forgotten about your loyalty and service to our country, and the city of Norfolk Virginia. January 16th, 2003 was the day you received your wings and you ascended to Heaven.

This year I had an awful reminder about January 16th. I lost my youngest son coming home from work in a vehicular death. I know you and my son are in a better place.

I am always thinking about you. How can 21 years have gone by and it still feels like yesterday. My heart still aches. Just still wishing you were here. Love you beyond eternity.

Always your identical twin sister Sharon Atkins

Sharon, I met your sister while she was going through the Norfolk academy and I was going through Chesapeake's. We were both at the airport for a competitive plane pull. I was instantly attracted to Sheila. She was so beautiful, inside and out. I felt as if I had known her for years, even though we just met. The world is a darker place without her, and she is missed by more people than you know.

I haven't been on this site for awhile. The world is crazy. I couldn't be a police, a teacher, or on the medical field. I know you loved your job and had so much pride. I am still missing you as always. We had our 60th birthday not even sure how that's possible. Until we see each other again. Loving you beyond eternity. Love ALWAYS. Your Identical twin sis.

I had the amazing privilege of meeting you Sheila...class of 67 was fun for sure. But no amount of fun could take away the pain I felt the day I heard we lost you my friend. On this day for the last 17 years....I am truly saddened to my soul for the loss of you and for your families loss. May you still be resting in peace my friend. Thanks for all you did to help me in the academy.

I remember meeting you while I was working at the Norfolk International Airport. You gave me the nick name Slim Shady because I always bleached my hair. Because of you I joined the Marine Corps then when I got out I became a Police Officer. You are missed!!!
