I HAD THE HONOR AND PRIVILEDGE OF KNOWING JOE AS A FRIEND AND A CO-WORKER. IT IS A SAD, TRAGIC LOSS OF SUCH AN EXECELLENT PERSON AND ONE GREAT OFFICER. HIS PRESENCE WILL BE MISSED BUT HIS SPIRIT WILL LIVE FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS. MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY GOES TO HIS FAMILY AND FIANCE'.

CPL. JIM DONNELLY

GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN, FOR NOW WE HAVE THE WATCH THAT YOU SO BRAVELY GAVE YOUR LIFE FOR. HONOR AND DEFEND IT WE WILL, FOR NOW WE HAVE AN ANGEL TO ALWAYS GUIDE US. REST IN PEACE OUR BROTHER, YOU WILL FOREVER BE MISSED

Reserve Deputy
Greenville County Sheriff's Office, Greenville , S.C.

I am so sorry for your families, friends, community and our nation's great loss once again. In addition, I am so damn mad that these cowards continually attempt to derail the men and women who soley fight to do what is right and provide safety and justice so we can be who we are. What they don't realize is that they are the disease and we, we, are the cure. We will prevail in stomping out the bad. The power of good will destroy them. The thousands of men and women who adorn the uniform are a massive and strong family that live and breathe off one another. For each brother or sister that falls, another builds and like a bright light from the heavens, freedom prevails. We shed a tear in your time of mourning, and reach to you to pull you thru. Nothing, I mean nothing, can and ever will, prevail over one's courage, integrity, and honor, that this and all that will follow. I slowly drop my salute in your honor.

Technical Sergeant Douglas Hermann
Washington Air National Guard

THE POLICEMAN’S LAST ROLL CALL ...

THE POLICEMAN STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD, WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS. HE HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING, JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS. "STEP FORWARD NOW, POLICEMAN. HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU? HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER CHEEK? TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"

THE POLICEMAN SQUARED his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain’t. Because those of us who carry badges can’t always be a Saint. I’ve had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I’ve been violent because the streets are awfully tough. But I never took a penny that wasn’t mine to keep, though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got to steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I’ve wept many unmanly tears. I know I don’t deserve a place among the people here, they never wanted me around except to calm their fear. If you’ve a place for me Lord, it needn’t be so grand. I never expected or had too much, but if you don’t, I’ll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod. As the policeman waited quietly, for the judgement of his God. "Step forward now, policeman, you’ve borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on Heaven’s streets, you’ve done your time in hell."

Rest in peace brother
