Reflections for Officer Christopher Robert Betts
Chris~
I know it's been a while since I've been on here. Not a lot of different things going on....trying to keep up with bills, decide on when and where I'm going to go to school, and what I want to do with life. I miss you Chris. I've been doing a lot of thinking. It's been 19 months since you left us....I still cry, still see you in my dreams, still wish you were here. I love you Chris....and I hope to see you soon.
Love you bro

Reading Christophers reflections has brought tears to my eyes. Although I never knew him, and probably never would have, he seemed a remarkable young man.
I hope, somehow, you can read the reflections left by your family Chris, they love and miss you SO SO much.
Take care young one, and on behalf of all officers throughout the world can I say 'Thanks'.
Rest in peace buddy

Well big bro, today's the BIG day. Your little sister is about to make that big step in married life. Everyone's telling me that you're here, and Chris I know you're here just by seeing the sun shining and the air warming up. Thank you for the such beautiful weather for my Wedding. I hope you know that Josh is right for me and that you're proud to have him as a brother-in-law. I can honestly sit here today and say Josh and I made it this far we can make through anything. I love and miss you Chris. See you standing up there when i make those lifelong vows to my Husband.
Love you Chris,
Your Little Sister,

"In The Line of Duty"
What is the meaning of "In The Line of Duty"
It means an officer made the "Ultimate Sacrafice".
It means someone took an officers life.
A hero has fallen.
It means their badge will no longer be on their chest,
And, they will join "The Best Of The Best".
Author Unknown....
A hero has fallen, but the badge remains on his chest. For as long as we live, the badge will always remain on his chest, for know hes in a better place with a badge that will never be taken, as he joins the other they all are "THE BEST OF THE BEST." for as long as i live Chris, your a HERO, and always will be, i miss you and love you....

No Regrets
We may never understand it
the risk these brave ones take,
but very rarely we see a bit
of the difference their lives make.
Some do it for the action
others find it a callin',
all find the satisfaction,
and few become the fallen.
Being an officer is what he loved
and to him as good as it gets,
law was what he always dreamed of
he would have no regrets.
And though it saddens all of us
to lose him in this way,
As an officer he knew he must
live life to the fullest everyday.

I often visit this website after the death of two dear friends from the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Officer Betts. I am deeply saddened to see the death of another very young man. A man that was just beginning to really live his life. To have a new tiny baby and a wife. From the reflections written about him, it is obvious that he was a wonderful man and officer.
These are senseless occurrences that continue to happen. I hope you find some comfort knowing that there are many prayers that continue to go out for you and your family.
Thank you so much to the men and women who continue to serve their communities and this great Nation. God Bless You.

How you like that title ...pretty funny huh? Went to go see OFC. Dolan after rehab, give support to the family and to see if all the events are as close to us as I heard. The same time, same day, same date and same choices we made to chase the perp... to do our job. He even had the same injuries I got handed. Go figure all that it's all to weird. There are to many of us getting hit by cars on the interstate. How about a group or club go any suggestions on acronyms? Gina reminded me of how many cops came up to the room with the same story. You would think folks would think about their surroundings, but who am i to say anythng look where we are. talk at ya later.

REMEMBERING OFFICER C.R. BETTS 1 YEAR LATER.....
2.16.76-12.22.02
A year ago you were taken away,
And still we don't know what happened.
But you will always remain in our hearts,
Forever and always.
We love you and miss you,
Wish you hadn't gone,
But it was a call that you had to do
In the blink of an eye,
We lost a real fine man,
The citizens of East Point lost a real fine police officer.
The family lost a real fine boy.
We love you Chris
And wish it wasn't your call,
But it was and you were taken a year ago.
Today I cried a single tear for my fallen brother.
It was unusual because my face is usually covered.
I let the tear roll down my face and on down to the floor...
For I knew that the healing was going to start soon.
My brother died a year ago in the line of duty.
And for some reason he to leave this place he loved,
To serve in God's glory.
He loved everything in life, had so much to look forward to,
But in the blink of an eye
the dreams, visions, promises ended.
He's now patrolling Heaven's golden gate and is a Blue Angel,
He'll always be in my heart and will always be remembered.
The holiday season isn't the same without you,
I wish and pary you are still here.
A couple of nights ago, a miracle happened,
And that was a visit from you!
You told me to be strong and
Not to let it ruin Christmas,
To me it seems impossible,
Since your death is oh so new.
You were taken a year ago
On that dark, December morning.
And following your death were
Two more close relatives.
I miss you and wish you'd come back,
But I guess I'll have to go on without you.

"Still Here"
It’s been a year, now, since you have been gone
But somehow we have managed to carry on
You left us, we didn’t get to say goodbye
But still it hurts and we begin to cry.
We loved you so much, more than we could ever show,
We cared for you like a brother, we hope that you did know.
We miss you, Chris, each and every day
We know that you are gone, but there is still so much to say
We know you had to go, never to return
Setting our hearts, forever to burn
You had to go, you heard your call
It’s so hard to think you had to be the one to take the fall
You are in Heaven, up there, giving us a smile
We know that we will see you, in only a little while
You are with God now, in the stars
And you are always with us wherever we are
We Love you, Chris, we always will
But we miss you too…. Even still
After all this time, we still feel the sting
That the loss of a great Officer tends to bring
We will never forget you, not in a million years
Though all those memories will bring us tears
We know that we will see you once again
And that you will lead us to the light holding our hands.

I don't think the stories can get much sadder than this one. To lose
someone who was just beginning his career, his marriage and his life
with his tiny baby. . .
Anytime is a sad time to lose a loved one, but as the holidays near, it
seems to be the worst. I am sickened that you had to lose your
sweetheart, Shannon and Trenton his Dad and his parents their son, his
siblings their brother, ... and it goes on and on. My heart is heavy with
your pain and sadness. May God comfort all those who are still grieving
your passing. Life is difficult at times and the Lord Jesus wants to help
carry our burdens. He gives us many beautiful promises in His Word to
help us through our valleys. I pray you will feel His presence and know
His peace. Thank you for your service, dedication and mostly, your
sacrifice, Officer Betts. We ache from missing you, even a whole year
later.

One year is on monday..make sure u check out the Lima News and read what is going to be put in there (I don't know who it is from)...I miss you bro..I miss u more every day, and wish u would just come home for the holidays like how we planned it last year...but it won't happen, and that's depressing. Well I really don't know what to say, so I'm just gonna get goin now...later.

Well, we are coming up on a year and I still cannot get used to the fact that you and not around here. We miss you so terribly and speak of you often. You are in our thoughts all the time. Merry Christmas Woody :)

Well chris, Its been almost a year now. It seems just like yesterday you was here, acting goofy, making everybody laugh, and just being your cheerful self. We all miss you very much, especially my dad. You were the first really good trusting friend he has had in years. Every time something funny happens to my dad, ( like him being clumbsy) he says " okay chris is picking on me again" and we all laugh. That seemed to be Chris number one mission, picking on my dad. They were so funny together. I still pray for the Betts family, and hope they are doing okay. I know this christmas is going to be tuff for family and friends, but to me it makes it easier to remember and talk about the good times, and the funny things he did. Merry Christmas Chris and we miss and love you. Merry Christmas to the Betts family and God bless you!

Chris I didn't know you but wish I had. I had a little boy about the same time you did. Each day before I go to work I hold that little boy a little longer now. Because of your story I take the time with him that I may not have taken before and value it. Maybe our sons will grow up and wanna fight the good fight! Watch over us please (my wife would appreciate it)

hey big bro, what's happening?? I wrote a couple of poems while I was in Basic Training warming those stupid cold benches...so I might as well share them with you and everyone else...
Chris
10 months ago you were taken from us,
How I can't bear the truth.
I miss you bro, I always will,
Even though you'll be near.
TO me I feel like I'm in a dream,
And someday I'll wake up.
But then on days I know the truth,
And know I'll never see you again.
I miss you bro, I always will,
Just wish it had been me and not you. (20Oct03)
Sitting here I see your face,
Thinking about the wonderful place.
Sharing dreams and thoughts,
Wishing that you were somewhere close.
I miss you today, as I did yesterday,
I'll miss you forever for now and always.
Why you left this place,
I cannot say.
But knowing you're in my dreams
Helps me know the way.
I miss you as I always will,
but i'll know that you'll be
always near. (5Oct03)
Well just wanted you to know that I'm thinking about you and will always think about, from now and until I die. I love you Chris, just wish I told u more often.
