Another year, I make sure my daughters remember you Joann. It is a hot July, the fields are green and the hay harvested well. The fish are biting. I keep your old badge on the mantle.
Tell Mother, Bud and the Sisters Hello. Gone way to soon. We miss you.

14 years have gone by now Joann, and I still miss you. I miss seeing your smiling face, or the jokes you'd crack to lighten the mood on a fire scene. Still hurts to think about it this many years later, but it's comforting to know that justice was served. You were a hell of a fire chief as well as a deputy, you taught us all so many wonderful things that we still carry with us today. Watch over us as we continue to serve our time here on earth and keep the truck running for us when it's our time to go home friend.

Well Aunt JoAnn, its been 12 years today. I have attempted to write a reflection on this page many times, but haven't been able to find the words. So here goes...

Since you left, I have straightened up my life and grew up. I have followed in your foot steps and went into LE seven years ago. I remember all those Saturday mornings we went to breakfast and the exciting stories you would tell. I could tell you loved your career and helping the community. At that time, I was to concerned in running wild and being a kid. I look back now and know you started the desire with in me to pursue LE as a career.

I hope I'm making you proud Jo, I love you and miss you. I wish I could write more but.....

Your heroism and service is honored today, the ninth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I pray for the solace of all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. I try to leave reflections on a regular basis to honor all our officers who made the supreme sacrifice. However, there was something about reading the reflections left for Joann, especially the moving account of her funeral, that was especially touching. As I write this, I have tears streaming down my face for this woman who had such a beautiful soul, who was so valiant, and so dedicated to her community. I was not fortunate enough to have personally met her, yet because of the life she led and the example she set, I feel her loss. To all who wrote about this officer, thank you for sharing her with us.

Rest In Peace, Deputy Joann Barnes. Time never diminishes respect.

Joann what can I say. When I started at Dent County you were my FTO. We had a good time together and I learned a tremendous amount of information from you. Everything from doing a traffic stop to interviewing a suspect. I hope some day I can be as good as you interviewing people. You knew how to get people to talk and then had a way of making them feel good that they did talk. Joann you will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
