Reflections for Deputy Sheriff George Monroe Selby
For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Romans 13:4
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. Matthew 5:9

A Deputy's Prayer
Lord, I ask for courage
courage to face and conquer my own fears...
Courage to take me where others will not go
and please Lord, through it all, be at my side.
My thoughts and prayers go out the the family of deputy
Selby. To his 2 daughters, you Father will always be a
Hero.
The thn blue line just got thinner, another one of ours in blue was senselessly taken away. Do they think about the family this man left behind? No, they only thought of themselves and made a split second decision that will shadow his family for the rest of their lives. To the family: I am thinking about you. God bless. He made the ultimate sacrafice.

Thank you for the work that you did. The work relationship I had with you was wonderful. I hate I did not get to know you as well as others did. Jessica and the girls will be taken care of. As you look down upon us, guide us in the right direction, you were a leader here and I know you are a leader in Heaven."there are some things in life which you can control, that which you cant God will handle"

ON SATURDAY AT 12:02

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of singing birds in circling flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
I am the flowers that bloom.
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing.
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there. I did not die.

George, My heart is breaking for you, your family, and your search warrant team members. I worked with you closely for two years and was looking forward to coming back and working with you again. I have looked through my search warrant pictures and you are the focus of most of the humorous ones. I look at them now and I wish for those fun times again. I loved you as any officer loves the ones they work with every day. I know that you will be missed more than I could possibly put into words. You are one of the best and I will think of you every day. My love and thoughts to your family and team members.

My heart aches for the Selby family who has lost their loved one. George Selby's life has had a tremendous impact on the Memphis community. My brother was also killed in the line of duty and I know the pain that this family is experiencing, and will experience for the rest of their lives. I now have two sons in law enforcement, one is a Shelby County Sheriff's deputy, and I pray daily that the Lord will protect them. I just hope that more citizens will realize the sacrifice that these people make daily. Granted it is a profession that they have chosen, but thank God someone chooses this career. I shudder to think what our community would be like without these dedicated professionals. I didn't personally know George Selby but I know him in my heart and I am thankful for the legacy he has left. I am reminded of a scripture which reads, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the Judge, will award to me on that day." George Selby gave his life but not in vain. He has now received his crown of righteousness and he has touched the lives of thousands. Now we have to carry on our lives without him but George Selby will never be forgotten -- he will always live in our hearts.

What a terrible and tragic loss for the family, friends and department. May you somehow make good out of the senseless sacrafice of Deputy Shelby. May the family find that peace in their hearts that passes all understanding. Your lives are now forever changed and each day is a challenge. Always remember to get up, move forward and never forget. Be safe.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family George! You were a very good friend of mine, and I will miss you!
My wife and I will make sure that Jessica and your beautiful girls are taken care of in the future.
Thank you for giving my daughter the day bed, last Sunday, that your daughter had outgrown .
My boys asked me if Mr. George was still in Heaven, and I said yes. I then told them we will see him there someday.
I don't know why God took you at such an early age, but I know that he has an ultimate plan for you and your family. That is the only thing that gives us peace of mind.
My family will always remember your smile, and your kind ways.
Rest easy George, we will see you again in Heaven.
