To my part-time midnight partner at Fort Dix station. I am deeply saddened by our loss. We will make sure your wife Lisa and your children are cared for. Until this day, you have given me some of my best "midnight stories", and after 10 years they are still as funny as if it were yesterday. You will be remembered and missed; not just by me, but by an entire "Outfit". "Heeeey Troop, what do ya got"

I would like to send my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Officer Scales. I was there that horrifying day as standby. To hear of a member in uniform down is the worst feeling in the world. And even worse when personell can not do anything to help, is also a terrible feeling. I was not on scene but my one partner was, and to hear her side of the story, has affected me just as much as everyone else. The feeling of helplessness can emotionally effect people in different ways. It is hard to accept the fact that we can not help someone in certain situations, no matter how hard we try. I want the family to know that my fellow co-workers who arrived on scene tried thier best.
To the family, My prayers are with you. May God bless Lisa and those three beautiful children. Be strong for God is watching over you.

Carteret Fire Department

Rest in peace Chris. You truly represented what "Honor, Duty and Fidelity" is all about to the "Outfit", and serving the people of the great State of New Jersey. You will be sorely missed but never forgotten.

The Policemen's Prayer O' gentle Lord, Keep the day/ night watch with me. As I begin my tour of duty, I ask your protection from all mental, physical and spiritual harm. Sustain me with the knowledge that I am doing Your work, endeavoring to keep the peace among Your people. Help me to be just as I enforce the law without prejudice or favor to anyone.May I be courageous but not reckless in carrying out my duties. Let me respond to all calls with haste realizing that so many are dependent on me for life and safety. Support me with Your consoling power when I am tempted to think no one really cares and that I am taken for granted. Sustain in me the conviction that so many thousands do care and are grateful for my presence.Grant that I may be loyal to my partner and my fellow officers, and that I may back them up effectively when called upon for assistance. Lord, I ask that I may return safely, after my tour of duty, to my loved ones and those who love me.I pray that I may be a good and honorable police officer:and after my tour of duty is over here on earth, may I enjoy the peace and happiness of heaven that You have promised to those who serve You well. Amen Blessed are the peace makers;for they shall be called the children of God.Math.5-9 Sent to you by Chief D.A.Koeppen (ret)Washington NJ father of Trooper D.C.Koeppen NJSP and Officer 1st Class J.D.Koeppen Capital City P.D.Raleigh NC
