It is a horrible thing to read of another loss to the community. That tragedy is magnified when it is one of your own, and it happens on your post. Tom is a true hero, having overcome a near encounter with death previously, and storming right back to the job. He was extremely dedicated and will now be watching over us from above. Rest in Peace!

Cowards will rot in hell, Heros, like Detective Thomas G. Newman, will sit at the right hand of the Father. As I put my uniform on tomorrow I will say a prayer for his family, especially his kids. Hold his memories close and visit him in your minds and hearts. I shake my head at the senslessness of this crime. For what? A Hero dies at the hands of cowards....May you rest in peace,Detective Newman, and tell Billy he will never be forgotten.

A big hand for the security guard who chased the scumbags and exchanged shots with them.It shows that some people do care after all and there is hope for the world. But little does it help the fatherless children. Will they ever understand why their father died?
I am sorry about your loss. This man is truley a hero. May god bless your department and your family. I lived in Baltimore area for two years before coming a Police Officer in the state of Utah. We just lost an Officer a week ago so I understand what you are going through. God be with you and please watch over the rest of us. Your freind and fellow Officer J Whatcott 5M15

I never dreamed it would be me
My name for all eternity
Recorded here at this hallowed place
Alas, my name, no more my face
"In the line of duty" I hear them say
My family now the price will pay
My folded flag stained with their tears
We only had those few short years
The badge no longer on my chest
I sleep now in eternal rest
My sword I pass to those behind
And pray they keep this thought in mind
I never dreamed it would be me
And with heavy heart and bended knee
I ask for all here from the past
Dear God, let my name be the last

No agency; trying to get hired
The family of Det. Newman, the city of Baltimore and the law enforcement community everywhere has suffered a tremendous and senseless loss. We will all stand strong despite this tragedy. When one of us falls, we all stumble for a while...but we will carry on as Det. Newman no doubt wants us to.
