Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Detective Thomas G. Newman

My heart and prayers go out to Detective Newman's family as well as the many men and women he worked with. We are still in the recovery phase of losing two officers; William Bell of the Summerville Police Department in Summerville, SC and Berkeley County Sheriff's Deputy Gene Wright (EOW 11-19-02). It is a tragedy that has affected many more people than I would have thought. God has a special place for police officers, and I'm sure that Detective Newman will enjoy getting to know William and Gene in heaven.

To those who knew and loved Thomas Newman, in your grief, in your loss, underneath it all, in those empty places where you really live, Christ is present and ready to fill you with himself and with the presence of God. In your loneliness, in your heartache, in your frustration Christ says "Cast your burdens upon me, for I love you." Christ can give you God's peace that passes all human understanding.

Be there for one another and don't be afraid to cry and hug. It really helps.

AFTER READING OF DET NEWMANS DEATH,I REALIZED THIS WORLD HAS A LOT OF COWARDS IN IT.IN THE PAST,WE HAVE READ AND HEARD ABOUT GREAT HEROES.TODAY,WE HAVE READ ABOUT ONE IN OUR MIST.GOD BLESS US THAT WE CAN CONTINUE TO GET MEN AND WOMEN OF THAT CALIBER IN LAW ENFORCEMENT.GOD BLESS FAMILY,FRIENDS AND CO-WORKERS.A HERO GONE,BUT NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN.

CHIEF RONNIE WATFORD-RETIRED
JEFFERSON POLICE DEPT,S.C.

For the past 28 years, I've been to far too many funerals, heard too many Officer-Down stories and have had occasion to read hundreds of these tragedies. But this has got to be one of the worst. What kind of place has Baltimore become? What is happening to America? I just don't know anymore. To those of us who have made it to retirement, "Congrats". To those of us who are still out there shagging calls or carrying a caseload and dealing with society's trash " Be very careful". And lastly, to those of us who have died doing what others won't do, " God love you and bless you and your families!"

Sgt. Jeff Stratton (Ret).
Tucson , Az. PD

God says that we must forgive those who sin against us. I am finding it to be very difficult to forgive the cowards that killed this fine officer. When is all this needless killing going to stop? I am frustrated because there seems to be no end to fellow officers giving the ultimate sacrafice in defense of this country. Officer Newman died a hero and will never be forgotton by those of us who do care. Rest in peace, Sir.

Vermilion County(IL) Sheriff's Dept.

My prayers and thoughts are with the family, friends, and co-workers of this brave man. You must all pull together and let his young children know what a true hero he is. Know that he is keeping watch from above now.

It angers me to read this story. These cowards who attacked a police officer when his back was turned to them makes me sick to my stomach. I often ask myself what kind of world is this that we live in.
Not only do we face serious dangers while at work, now I fully understand the dangers we face while off duty.
My God bless his family and friends.
God speed, brother.

MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE FAMILY OF DET. NEWMAN. I KNOW IT WILL BE HARD, BUT U DO HAVE THE SUPPORT OF ALL BROTHERS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS. MAY HE REST IN PEACE.

Deepest sympathy to the family of Det. Newman. May God grant you the Supreme peace that only He can give.
To his precious children, always know that your Dad was a hero. He was doing a job he loved and had a special calling for. Only a special kind of person can do the job your dad was called to do. Be so proud of him and know that he is watching over you forever.

To the Family, Relatives, Friends, and Work Colleauges of Detective Thomas G, Newman,

Our prayers and thoughts are for each of you in this time. Often we are angry at these instances and especially senseless attacks of anger on citizens and then us, public servants. We cannot undo the past, but we can work in the "now" and trust the Lord with the future.

May the Lord Jesus hold you in His mighty arms, but most of all, may you be willing to let Him.

You are in our thoughts and prayers,

What a TRUE AMERICAN HERO. May God comfort your family and friends as they deal with your death. You must have loved your job, this was evident as you had been shot before and kept doing what was right. My thoughts and especially my prayers are with your family and co-workers. May you always be remembered as the HERO that you are.........John 15:13
