Gene
When I got the news on Tuesday night it hurt. Gene you were always there at home when I wanted to see you. When I would come by we would talk hours at a time. I'll always cherish the moments working under you at Advance Auto. The times we would get in trouble telling our war stories John would yell to us keep your mind on the paying job not your volunteer. Gene to see you in uniform you could tell you were proud Berkeley County will never be the same without County 137 Gene you'll always have a place in my heart.
I'll never forget you. I'll make my dream come true for both you and William but its like the chaplain said Both Gene and William died doing what they loved but lived doing what they loved.

Gene,
My heart goes out to your family and co-workers. I thank you for the service and assistance that you provided to my team and to the citizens of the Town of Summerville. Your generosity was repaid with an untimely death. Although it seems unfair, God does have a "Master Plan" and I'm sure that you and William Bell will play a major part in it. God Bless you both. We will pray for your family and friends.

Lt James Bateman
Summerville Police

To the Family, Relatives, Friends, and Work Colleauges of Deputy Sheriff Marion E. Wright II,

Just as I reflected in the "Reflection" for Patrolman Bell, it is a great tragedy when one pays the utmost in this life in stopping to help one in need. However, that is what we are called to do.

This will certainly not be in vain, as Deputy Wright was doing what he affirmed to do and that is to "Protect and to Serve." May we always follow his kind and sacrificial example.

May you find strength and comfort in the Lord Jesus, now and for all of eternity.

In His Name,

Jack H. Lanier, Jr.

How can people be so stupid? Let me guess, the drunk was probably just out having fun. Or was he drinking away his problems? Whatever the case, now he gets to live with knowing that he killed two innocent people who have families left behind. I hope that he thinks about that everyday because there won't be a day that goes by that the officer's family doesn't miss their loved one. I know because I remember my loved one everyday. May God wrap his loving arms around the family and give them strength & comfort.

Some people might say that a hero is a person who does even one extraordinary thing. I say it is the person who does the little things that no one else ever hears about. Nobody will ever nominate you for a medal when you stop to offer assistance, but you deserve it just the same. You have shown compassion and a caring attitude. That's what has made you my hero.

I'm sorry that you were taken too soon Deputy Wright. I will say special prayer for you tonight. God bless you and yours.

Washington State Patrol
