Reflections for Sergeant Daniel Dale Green

My little boy, found his memorial bracelet in the Toccoa River near Copperhill Tennessee this past Sunday. Found near a small creek that ran underneath a railroad trestle that fed into the large river.
He would like to send it back to you Mrs. Deb Green.

Thinking of Sergeant Dan Dale Green and this tragic loss for the Tallahassee Police Department.
Our thoughts and prayers remain with Sergeant Green's family, his loved ones and the members of the Tallahassee Police Department. I was a State Trooper lieutenant when this happened and reflect back thinking of the incident, Sergeant Green's dedicated service to others and the untold sacrifices of law enforcement families made daily to support everyone's well being. Your sacrifices are not forgotten.

Officer Green was such a wonderful officer. I remember my childhood years how he looked out for the kids in our rough neighborhood and always encouraged everyone in any situation. What a wonderful spirit. As kids, we use to call him "Major Dad" when he scroll through the neighborhood serving and protecting. So many broken hearts and family due to his tragic death.

I was 19 years old when Officer Green was ambushed and will never forget what a wonderful person he was and mentor in our neighborhood. My prayers go out for his wife, kids, family; and all the others that was affected by the lost of this precious angel.

Much love Officer Green, aka "Major Dad"

Dale was a real gentleman. I am proudly to have known and worked with him. He and I worked with the teens at our church. He was an inspiration to them and me.
The day of his death was the worst day of my life thus far.
I was blessed to have known and loved him.

Hi, Dale. Just stopped by for a visit on this day, my friend. I share your story with my friends every year to be certain your sacrifice is never forgotten. My kids are grown now, amazing human beings and such great Americans. They know your name and about our friendship in high school. I have made sure they they know the high cost of a free society and to always honor those who pay that cost for them. See you next year, Bud.

Hard to believe that it has been 14 years since you were murdered. I didn't know you, but I was part of the law enforcement community. And when one of us is killed in the line of duty, we all feel the grief. I also met your wife, Deb, since your passing and what a special person she seems to be. May you rest in peace...

Dale,

As I sit here at my desk, my thoughts drifted back to my high school days. Drifted to the people that were most influential and who have guided me to where I am today.
I never did get to tell you, Thanks! But as I was an explorer with TPD, you were by far one of the most influential. I strived to become the best person, Officer I can be, all because you led by example and you left an impact on me. You were the example of Community Policing. We would walk the Texas St. Projects, talking with the residents. Seeing their smiles and their laughter as you greeted them with a smile and a wave. They knew they were safe.

I have visited Tallahassee several times since your passing. I have walked Lake Ella and have seen your name on the road. Every time I see it, I hear music playing. Thanks, Dale! Thanks for the memories!!

Hey Babe – I Love You !! Today, March 1, is our 30th wedding anniversary!! I’ve been thinking about the last anniversary that we shared together and how special it was. You had made all the plans secretly, and were so excited -- you teased me for days, but didn’t give in and tell me your plans until we were heading out of town that evening. It is comforting to have such wonderful memories to get me through difficult days. Thank you, my love, for giving me thousands of awesome memories that I can lean on each day. We truly were a perfect match, and I thank the Lord for every day we shared together !! I miss you BIG – and I love you so much !! Deb

Hi Bro! This would have been your 60th birthday, wow, I sure do miss you! Mom will be celebrating by baking a bunch of carrot cakes for TPD, since that was your favorite cake she enjoys doing that in your memory. I know you would not come back from Heaven for anything at all and I sure am looking forward to seeing you and Dad again soon!
You are missed by many people and you would be very proud of your children and your grandchildren, they are beautiful people!
Most of all you brought and still bring a lot of Glory for our Jesus and that was what your wish was!
Love you Brother, Mom and I will see you in His time!

Dale, my friend, my brother, our Hero!
Man, do we miss you and think of you so often. Your life and your example are still shaping lives in a positive direction even these years later.
Next Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014, on what would be your 59th birthday, you will be remembered and honored again. Our Lord has arranged that I will be speaking to the first-ever National Law Enforcement Retreat at the Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove! Over 200 LEO's and spouses will be there in Asheville and they will hear about you and about your faith! You just have to love how Our God works! We could never have pulled that off and honestly, I didn't remember until I spoke with your Mom and your wife.
Dale, we do miss you but are SO thankful for the assurance we have in where you are - With Our Savior Jesus! Praise God for the HOPE He gives us.
We pray you will be honored and Jesus will be glorified next Tuesday and everyday we have capacity. Love you, Brother and see you in His perfect time!

I was your Explorer that rode along with you in the early 90's. You made an impression on me. Thank You! Because of your patients, and advice. I have succeeded. I succeeded in the military, and the Federal Government. Thanks Dale, you helped me more than you will ever know!

Dale,
It's hard to believe that so many years have passed. It seems like yesterday that I was working the Midnight shift on the South Side of Tallahassee on your squad. Today on the date of your passing, I spoke at Roll Call here at The Miami Beach Police Department. I told your sory to a room full of new officers as well as 20 year vets. I told them what a great family man you were and how respected you are as a Police Officer and Sergeant. We held a moment of silence in your honor. Thank you for your leadership and professionalism. I hope that someday, I will be able to have the inpact on the careers of old and new officers alike as you did. you will never be forgotten.

Hey Bro,
Wow, can't believe it's been 11 years! Man I miss you just as if it were yesterday! I am so praying that our Lord comes and gets us soon so you, me, Mom and Dad can be together again. Lots has happened since you left and several times I have heard you in my heart encouraging me to forge ahead to the Glory of God, I have failed lots of times, but I am trying to do whats best, mostly for our Mom - she still grieves over you and Dad and I suppose she will until we meet again.
Your Daughter and Grand daughters are beautiful, can't say they got their looks after you, LOL, but that Kristen is just like you in so many ways, and that is a great thing.
Miss you my Brother, so very much,
Love always,
Your Sister,
Joni

Dale, I never knew you as a police officer. The last time I saw you was as the drum major at Rickards High School. I was the drum captain my senior year in 1972. I went on to the Gadsden and then Wakulla county sheriffs departments before I moved south to the Broward County Emergency Services Division in 1975... Dale, even as a 17 year old in the little hamlet that was Tallahassee in the 70's, you were known for your character and integrity. Your openness to all ideas and your willingness to help others excel was well known and appreciated even then. I actually found you on ODMP by accident, visiting a couple of old friends who are here as well... It seems that we have to give our best at some point, to allow the rest to have the life we all hold so dear. I visit you often Dale. I hope that the rest of us remember and revere your sacrifice, and that of your family, that we might live in comfort and peace. Godspeed, my friend

Dale,

Thank you for the way you lived. Thank you for the way you trained and lead us. Thank you for the kind of husband and father you were. I still can't believe that you're gone; that night 10 years ago still seems like a bad dream. I continue to be amazed at the way you have touched and continue to touch the lives of so many through the life you lived so well. You are what people mean when they use that word, hero. Im grateful for your life. I feel honored to have known you. Please know that I honor your memory, still laugh at your jokes and smile everytime the # 255 randomly appears. And I mourn the terrible loss of you from this world. Rest well, Dale. You will always be with me and for that, I am very grateful.

I never got the chance to meet you Dale, but I wish I had. I always hear stories and memories about you and how you were a role model at TPD and in the community. You still inspire many police officers to be like you.

Ten years. A whole decade today. It doesn't feel like it's been that long. I can't say that November the 13th has ever been a good day for me dad. I already didn't like November. It gets cold, nature goes into remission, the sky is overcast and dreary. And despite the fact that I don't believe in luck, the number 13 has a bad vibe associated with it. What a fitting marker for the day that houses my worst memories in life.

In my design class this morning, the answer to a heat-exchanger problem came out as 2.55. That is what reminded me of what day it was, almost as if you were dropping in to say hi after so long. I appreciate that, cause my morning wasn't going all that great. When I remember that I'm your son, I don't feel quite so defeated.

I still need you dad. Ten years later... and I can still feel the part of me missing that died along with you. No one can replace you or who you were to me.
