Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Lieutenant Paul Joseph Beaupre

To the Beaupre family I have just got through reading all the reflections on this web site. I can't believe that it's 56 years ago since that tragic event took place. I was a young police officer working under his command on the department. We were friends for many years prior to that time. On that ill-fated night I was working the early evening shift, and we had plans to meet at the restaurant when my shift ended. As fate would have it, I ended up having to work the following shift as my relief called in sick. I have regretted it for a long time. You were a good police officer, boss, and a true friend well respected by all, and were in line to be the next Chief of the department. You were my mentor for continuing my career in Law Enforcement, college and following in your footsteps, I became Chief in another department years later.

Lieutenant Beaupre, it has been 56 years since you were taken from us. New England law enforcement has continued to thrive, learn and become safer due to the traditions and sacrifices you, your family, and many others have made for us. Thank you for your 11 years of law enforcement service.

In college I did an internship and was assigned to your son at Troop H in Hartford. My great-grandfather was Fire Chief in Blue Hills at the time of your death. I often think and wonder if the two of you knew each other. I would like nothing more than to reconnect with your son Roger and catch up.

It is hard to believe that so many years have passed since the end of your watch. I still remember you as a friend and mentor when I was a Supernumerary Officer back in 1965 . When it was learned what happend to you it was a sad day to the entire Bloomfield Police Dept. and to all that knew you. Since the many years that have passed I became a full time police officer for the Town of Bloomfield and retired in 1993 as a Detective. I also make it my duty to visit your grave and place a flower every Memorial Day and Christmas . You will never be forgotten by your Brother Officers. Peace be with You and your family.

This is my first time on this site. I knew Paul before I was an officer with the Bloomfield PD. He was a good Friend whom I knew for many years. Paul was a good and decent person as well as a sharp, smart, police officer. He always thought of his fellow Officers and the public which he served. It was through his advise I was able to achieve the rank of Chief. Paul was well respected by his fellow officers, other agencies and the general public. There is not enough space or time to reflect upon his character. To his young daughter and son I would welcome any inquires.

Respectively,
Jerry Sibley

I am the youngest daughter of Paul. I was just 9 months old when he made the ultimate sacrifice. I never knew him, and have no memories of him other than what I have heard from others. I appreciate all the reflections added here by people who knew my father, as it gives me a small glimpse into who he was.
Thank you to all who have served their community and stood on the side of justice. You have my utmost respect.

I did not have the honor of knowing Lt. Beaupre personally. However, I have had the pleasure of working directly with his son, Roger, who is also a sergeant with the Connecticut State Police. Roger has become a well respected trooper within the ranks of our department that is admired by his peers. I know that someway Lt. Beaupre is very proud of how his son has grown up.

To the Beaupre Family;

I was only a young boy when Paul died. Yet I remember Paul and your family attending summer cookouts at my uncles home. The contact I had with Paul, and other members of the Bloomfield Police Force are what inspired me to make a career of law enforcement. I am sure that he touched other young peoples lives in a similar way. He will never be forgotten. May God bless he and you.
