Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Thomas Newton Pearson
Time may have passed but you are not forgotten. I believe as long as someone remembers you or speaks your name, you are still with us.
Thank you for your heroism.

My name is Melissa Linnemann , my mother was Virginia Linnemann (Yates). She was the great granddaughter of Newt Pearson and the brother of Leon yates of Lane Oklahoma. I bought thru this site the memorial license plate naming Newt Pearson as an Ok sherrif killed in the line of duty. It brings me great pride when someone inquires of what the plate is for. I will continue to research this topic.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 103rd anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace

Newt was my Great Grandfather. My grandmother used to tell me stories about him when I was a little boy. I was always interested in Cowboys and Indians so when she spoke of him I would always listen intently to her stories, often times confused because my grandmother is half Cherokee. Who's side was I supposed to be on? Typical Oklahoma family question I guess. My Grandma also used to tell me that I reminded her of him and that I favored him in demeanor as well as looks. My Grandmother passed away recently and one of the last things she told me was not to forget my roots.
I don't know alot about my Great Grandfather but from the stories she told me as a boy he loved his Job and he loved Oklahoma. I have my own little 6 yr old boy now,and a few stories to pass on about an Oklahoma cowboy and an Indian too.
