Jeremiah Murphy was my grandfather. I never had the chance to meet him, but my grandmother lived with us. They came to this country from Ireland for a better life, and he died with honor and courage. I never met him, but I'm proud he is my granddad.

Keeper Murphy,
On today, the 91st anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you to you and your Warden who was also killed in that incident for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of New York City. There is no tougher job in Law Enforcement than that of a Corrections Officer.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 85th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
