THE POLICEMEN'S PRAYER-O,gentle Lord!Keep the day/night watch with me.As I begin my tour of duty,I ask Your protection from all mental, physical and spiritual harm. Sustain me with the knowledge that I am doing Your work, endeavoring to keep the peace among Your people. Help me to be just as I enforce the law without prejudice or favor to anyone. May I be courageous but not reckless in carrying out my duties. Let me respond to all calls with haste realizing that so many are dependent on me for life and safety. Support me with Your consoling power when I am tempted to think no one really cares and that I am taken for granted. Sustain in me the conviction that so many thousands do care and are grateful for my presence. Grant that I may be loyal to my partner and my fellow officers, and that I may back them up effectively when called upon for assistance. Lord,I ask that I may return safely, after my tour of duty, to my loved ones and those that love me. I pray that I may be a good and honorable police officer:and after my tour of duty is over here on earth, may I enjoy the peace and happiness of heaven that You have promised to those that serve You well. Amen Sent to you all by father of Officer J.D.Koeppen,Godspeed

To Officer Paul's family, friends and co-workers,
I'm so sorry that we have lost another fine officer in N.C. I lost the man that I had been married to last year on I-40 in western N.C. and time hasn't seemed to help in many ways. The one thing that has helped me are the people who really care and help you. Let those who offer their assistance during this time do what they can to make things a little easier for you. May God give you the comfort, strength and determination that you will need to live on from this day. My thoughts and prayers will be with you as I know what it feels like to lose "your officer".

How it always saddens me to come here and find another name.....just reading the other reflections tells what a wonderful human being your loved one is. May God wrap his loving arms around your family and friends and hold them close in the days to come. Know we have walked the path you are on and we will continue on with you.

God I pray that you comfort and strengthen Officer Charles Radford Paul III family and friends. Officer Charles is a HERO.

I only met Officer Paul in person for a brief moment. He and I happened to be seated at the same table in a Japanese Restaurant in Raleigh. As most guys do we made small talk and after a few seconds we realized that we are both in the same line of work. For the course of the dinner we joked about the citizens that we had encountered and some of the situations we found ourselves in. His wife and baby were with him and I remember how beautiful they were and how obvious their love was. I vividly remember my fiancee and his wife joking about phone conversations they have had with us that have ended suddenly when they hear the high pitched scream of the radar tones. It was a very pleasant time and I walked away from the table with a business card and a new friend. Today while watching the news I was shocked and horrified to hear of his passing. Words cannot say how sorry I am that this has happened. Sandra and I offer our most sincere condolences.

We live our lives day to day. We come to this site only to keep up to date. For us young ones, the reality never quite sets in.

Until that one day when it hits home. The day you loose an officer from your hometown. Then you stop and think.

WHAT HAVE I GOT MYSELF INTO?

When I came over the hillcrest while traveling east on I-440 and saw all the flashing lights, I knew that a fellow Officer had been hurt. When I arrived at Wake Med where my wife attended a seminar and saw the officers there, I knew then that the fellow officer was a Fallen Hero. God Bless the family of Officer Paul and the Raleigh Police Department family that served with him. Your service and commitment will not be forgotten Master Officer Paul.

I saw the Heavens open up.
The Earth shook with Fear.
For Evil, knew of God's Army.
They were Heroes, men on steel horses.

I just couldn't believe what I was hearing today. I listened in horrified silence as the traffic surrounding your death unfolded. I began to think back to the last time I spoke to you, the last time I saw your face. It was just last week; you were so excited about the new Heritage you had just bought and you were so happy. I knew before it was announced on the status channel that you were gone and I was shocked, numb and panicked all at the same time. I remember just 4 short years ago, how you got picked to show the rookie (me) around for the day and how much fun you made it. Your sense of humor and devotion to family and friends made you an instant friend in my book. I couldn't imagine you ever having any enemies. I also remember the days at Litchford, seeing you at shift change. No matter what, you always had a smile left at the end of the day. I haven't stopped crying since this morning and my heart is so heavy and grief-stricken it feels like it will explode. You were a wonderful friend, husband and father and you will be missed dearly. Rest in peace my brother; God has you in the cradle of his arms now.

god bless...
