Reflections for Lieutenant Billy Ray Jiles
It saddens us all when we have to say goodbye to another hero. Take strength in knowing that True Heros Are Never Forgotten. Each and every one of us are part of who he was and he can never be forgotten as long as we continue to remember and honor his calling. Bless the family and friends of this courageous and honorable hero.

"The Policeman's last Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Why must another brother in blue have to lose his life to the hands of a coward who can't handle his own life? It angers me and makes me very sad to see someone murder a police officer and tear a family apart. Lt. Jiles, you are a true hero and although you were taken from your family tragically, you are in a better place now. May you stand by God as one of his great soldiers and watch over your family and fellow officers. To Mrs. Jiles and your children as well as the Officers of the Carroll County Sheriff's Dept: You are all in the thoughts and prayers of Police Officers here in NY state. RIP and God Bless.

As a dispatcher I heard this news that a surrounding county officer has been shot down. How greatly saddened I feel to loose a blue like you. He was a great deputy I assure you. As a wife of a law enforcement officer, I don't know what to say, only that I pray the pain will go away for his wife and children. I can't imagine what it must feel like for her, but her and the children never forget "He's a angel now watching over u". I feel for the dispatcher and local law enforcement they soon will get over this. I know I had one to fall on my shift to.
