Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Renee Danell Azure

After reading my brother's memorial, I just had to see who some of the other heroes were on this wonderful memorial page. It saddens me so to read about the circumstances of Renee's death. Please know that she is considered a hero by all of us. Thank you to her family for the kind words - I hope that my condolences also bring some comfort. My thoughts are with the family and the Union City Sheriff's Office now and forever. Take care out there.

Charmaine S. Gernale
Surviving Sister of Conrad S. Gernale, EOW 9-6-2002

On May 2 1979 my parents lives changed forever. Renee Azure was born. A few years later on Feb. 10 my parents lives changed once again, I was born. We shared so many memories with each other. She was a loving, warm-hearted person, even though we had our bad moments. Renee was like a 2nd mother to me. She taught me so much. On March 2, 1999 all of our lives changed, little Faith Lyn was born. She is loved by everyone. Renee was a perfect mom, a great sister, and a wonderful daughter. On August 6, 2002 all of our lives changed dramatically. We lost that loving person. My mother, my father and I, love Renee with all of our hearts. I admit that sometimes we acted like we hated one another, but that was never the case. Renee was loved by more than her family, she didn't relize it, but she was loved by many others as well. I remember when we went to go see her on Tuesday my mom told me it would be OK. I started to get upset and said that it would never be OK, I would never get to talk to her again, but that is not true. I talk to her every night, and even though she may not answer, I know she is listening. Every night when I look up into the dark sky, I see so many stars shinning bright above us, many belonging to other people. However, the brightest star belongs to my beloved sister. If you ever feel lost or sad just look up and know Renee is looking down upon you and is watching over you. I know it is going to be hard to get over this horrible loss, but we are all in this together. Renee left so many people behind but sooner or later the hurt an pain will lessen. Renee I love you and miss you. You will never be forgotten and I will see you in the end......RIP

Your sister

Renee,

I have tried to do this many times. Many times I have left my computer in tears. Words cannot express the loss we all feel. I will miss your bright smile. How I always loved to see that. I know everything happens for a reason, I just wish I could understand. I know you are watching from up above and wondering why all the fuss. I think about you every day. I remember you once told me the sunrise was your higher power. I will think of you every time I see one. And know that you are at peace. Just know that we will all make sure that Faith knows what a hero her mommie is. Godspeed.

Deputy Azure died doing what she loved to do. I'm bothered to learn of her passing, but I know she's in a better place and the place she left is better for her having been there.

Rest in Peace, Deputy Azure.

My prayers go with your co-workers, family and friends. Our agency lost a Deputy this past May (2002), Deputy Jeff Davis 629. It is a true heart breaking experience. I know you and Jeff are patroling the skies above...keeping us safe from harm---it is good to know I have angels like you watching over me. Rest in peace Deputy Azure...you will not be forgotten.

I had the great pleasure to know Deputy Renee Azure in the Academy. She had a fire in her to do her job. We and our classmates spent many hours just talking about our dreams in Law Enforcement. She will be deeply missed. May god watch over her daughter and family. Thank you Renee for being a friend, your spirit will forever live in all of us.

I would like to express my sincere condolences to the family of Deputy Renee Azure. Although I never met her, I feel as though I have lost a sister, as we are all one big family in Law Enforcement. I know her family and coworkers, as well as the citizens of Union County, will feel a tremedous void now that Renee is no longer with us, but rest assured she will not be forgotten. We will carry on the dedicated service to the citizens we serve as I know Renee did, and keep her in our hearts forever. God Bless her family and coworkers during this difficult time.

My deepest sympathy to the family, friends and fellow officers of Deputy Azure. My heart breaks for you, as it still breaks over the recent loss of my brother. Kris Rao Haimbach, in her comments above, is so very right in that we are connected by our mutual tragedies. I know that our pain cannot console you, but perhaps knowing there are many thousands of us who have a deep, abiding appreciation for Deputy Azure's sacrifice will, somehow, help. We all honor her and pray for you.

I don't know where to start, I met Renee while in school at Central Florida Community College Police Academy in May of 2000. Once I met Renee I knew she was just one of those people who knew that she wanted to be in Law Enforcement and that was the only thing that she wanted to do. Renee was a great person to be around no matter what you were doing she would bend over backwards to help her friends and espically her daughter Faith who was her life. Renee is a sister I never had and I enjoyed all of the times in the 16 months before I moved to South Florida that I spent with her. Her family was such a focal point in her life and she had such loving parents and a sister that would do anything for her. I will miss Renee along with many other people whose lives she came into. Renee there will not be a day that I put my uniform on that you and your family will not be in my thoughts or heart. I will miss you very much!

Keep Smiling,

Our family sends condolences to Deputy Azure's family. My brother, South Carolina Highway Patrol Sr. Trooper Michael Rao, died June 12, 2002 assisting a stranded family roadside. He left behind a wife and 2 year old daughter. It pains me every day to think about their lives without him, but they will prevail, as will the rest of our family. Take heart that you are not alone in your grief. Others have gone through a terrible tragedy of their own, too. It connects us. May God wrap his arms around your family and hold them close. God Bless!

I had the great honor and privilege to know Renee. We attended the academy together and even went to take the state exam together. She was an awesome individual who left a lasting impression on my heart. I will never forget her and will always be proud of her. She had accomplished so much and was finally living the dream she worked so hard to obtain. I was very lucky to know her...All of us who knew her were lucky. She touched many lives and will live in our hearts forever. I will miss her but I will always have the memories of the great person she was and all the fun times we had. My prayers go out to her family and all who are effected by this tragic loss of one of Florida's Finest. She will always be a hero in my eyes, who gave her all in everything she did and gave the ultimate sacrifice. Goodbye Renee. I will never forget you. You told me that once and you were right. Love always....Mike

Deputy Azure, You are loved and appreciated simply for the badge you wore. My husband is an officer of the law and we have 3 year old. You must have been a very strong woman to be a mom and an officer. May you rest in peace and may the Lord shine upon your daughter.
