Officer Russell,
Your sacrifice will not be forgotten. I still have the vivid image of you being carried out of the Lutheran Chruch on August 6th. I'll never understand a loss such as yours, Remember that you and your family are in our prayers. Rest Easy Brother!

I remember when this tragedy happened and I will never forget it. I had the Honor of escorting you to your final rest when I was a Motor-Officer. R.I.P Brother....We are still fighting the good fight.

It will be 4 years that you were called away from duty and I know the pain still runs deep in the hearts of your loved ones. All I can suggest is to take one day at a time and to keep your memory alive and let your children know what a true hero you are and Heores Never Die. We ask the question why, especially with small children left behind, what could be more important than to be here for them. That is the first question I will be asking when I leave this world as my son also left behind 3 small children and they keep asking me why and I do not have an answer for them. Keep watch over your loved ones and protect them from harm. Protect those still out on patrol. You will never be forgotten.

Chris,
I was in the academy when the news broke of that fateful call you and your partner rolled on. I never had the pleasure of knowing you (you know how they isolate you in the academy), but I will never forget you or my other two dear friends that fell after you. I remember the day you were laid to rest vividly, I remember seeing your wife, God bless you, your wife, your children, and whole family. I know you are with them. I know you are with all of us in blue. Rest in peace, brother.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.

Tonight, August 4, 2005 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Police Officer Christopher Wayne Russell who died in the line of duty on this date three years ago.

When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.

Officer Russell’s sacrifice will never be forgotten.

God holds a special place for those who give their lives in the service of others. I've lost friends in this job, and have been on many calls such as the one that took you, so the loss is truly felt. May the Lord comfort your family, and when they hear Roy D. Mercer, may they laugh and remember you. Rest in the Peace and Joy of the Lord's arms, Brother.

Such a sad tragedy. I pray for strength and faith for the family to move forward. Rest in peace, Chris, and continue to watch over the men and women serving in law enforcement. When will these senseless acts of murder stop? God's peace be with you all.

It's ironic that on this anniversary of your death, the sentence is fresh on one of the monsters that did this. Rest easy, brother, and thank you for looking over our shoulders each day.

To all who have written and to those who continue to write:

Your messages of love, condolence, and concern mean so very much to us. Chris was a such a very special person. He loved his job and wouldn't think of doing anything else with his life. His only thought each day was to help people. Shortly following the September 11th tragedy, his wife asked him to promise that he wouldn't put his life on the line as the New York policemen and firemen had. His reply to her was, "Baby, I can't make that promise - I have to help the people." That was our Chris.

It has been over a year now, but we still wait for him to call; to hear one of his crazy impersonations over the phone. He dearly loved to make people laugh, to make people happy, and to keep people safe.

Chris faith in a loving God was strong, and we know that he was received with great joy in our Lord's heavenly kingdom. We thank God every day for His precious gift of this very special son. We will make sure that Chris's children know that their daddy was a true hero in every sense of the word.

God bless you all for your continued prayers.

Dear Bonnie: Dottie & Don: Our thoughts and prayers are still with you all. The Hero: (Christopher W. Russell) He's looking down on us serving & protecting! The New Orleans Police Dept. Well, they will live to fight another fight. Hopefully, without notifications of another officer down! Of course it's my personal view, But things like this wouldn't occur, if the people responsible for locking up violent criminals, would stop letting them back into society. Good behavior my fat butt! Once a violent person, always violent. Don't believe me? We lock 'em up. Then some complacent individual or "appointed" board let's 'em out. Where does it stop? Sincerely, Sgt. Johnny Vickers

To the Children of Officer Russell:
It may not matter that your Daddy was a hero, only that he was taken from you. Rest assured he would far rather be with you. His job was the toughest, but he did it for you- that you might live in a better world. Hopefully you can get to know your Dad through his legacy of service. In those times you need him and want him, just ask and he will be near. You may not see him and sometimes you may not even feel him, but he is there if you want him to be. May God bless you and keep you all. Families are forever.

Mrs. Russell,
I will not even try to put into words the sorry I feel for your loss. It is something that I have never had to go through and only wish I could do something for you and your family. Never forget that every person out there that carries a badge and gun will always be part of your family. You should never be reluctant to call upon us.
