In The Line of Duty

What is the meaning of "In The Line Of Duty"
It means that an officer made the Ultimate sacrifice.
It means that someone took an officers life.
A hero has fallen.

Officers who gave their all
To protect and serve us
Have been killed by someone whom they swore
To protect and serve.

It means that their badge will no longer be on their chest
And they will join
"The Best Of The Best"

It means that family and friends are left behind
To deal with the lost of a loved one.
Only having the memories of that loved one
Close to their hearts.
Something no one can ever take away.

It means that family members will stand at the officers grave
And wonder why...
Why would someone take an officers life
And leave them there to die?
If we only knew.

Today an officer will place their badge on their chest
To fulfill the dreams of heroes killed
"In The Line Of Duty"

We lost one of the finest Officers in the nation on this day; I know that because she was an officer in the great state of Minnesota! And, with one of the toughest departments in the state! Tears welled in my eyes as I watched the news report. As a fellow Minnesota Officer, I feel the pain of this loss just as every other brother and sister in blue does. Officer Schmidt, your shift is over, may you rest in peace. We'll take it from here.

To the family and department, my thoughts and prayers are with you, now and forever.

Officer William Weist
Lake City PD, Lake City MN

My wife Aleidy and myself would like to extend our condolences to the men and women of the Minneapolis Police Department in the death of Off. Melissa Schmidtt of your department. We pray that God grant her eternal rest as well as consolation to her family, friends and coworkers.

It is amazing how often we take for granted those who serve in blue. I awoke this morning to the news having missed the earlier news reports and when I heard the words"Officer Killed" my heart sank.I immediatedly thought about all my friends who stiil wear the uniform.
Then it came to me, you were my friend too, though we have never met. Just by listening to what people had to say about you, would have made you smile. You seemed to have lived an extraordinary life where serving others and doing what was right was your purpose.
I know there were things you wanted to say to your family and friends before you left, but don't worry they will be okay because they knew you. They knew you were a tireless worker that cared and truly enjoyed what you did on day to day basis. Though I never knew you, I knew you and I wanted to thank you.
May the Lord our God welcome you home to the Kingdom of Glory.

Patrol Officer
Minneapolis

You, your department, and your family are in my prayers..!
