Melissa...
Someone contacted me about fallen officer last night, to see if I could do the protrait of her. Melissa, I want to thank you for your guidance from above. You have taught me much even though we contacted each other only a few time.Today is my last class for Criminal Justice at the college and I wore your pin, in rememberance of you and asked students to say a prayer for you and all the fallen officers.
I just want to thank you.

Melissa,
It has been 12 years since we served together in Havana, Cuba while on MSG Duty. When I reflect back on that experience, there isn't a lot that brings a smile to my face other than the fun times that you, myself, and some of the other Marines had. Thank you for making a not so good environment better. I remember you fondly and know that you are missed. Thank you for your service Marine and God Bless You!

Thinking of you, Melissa, and keeping your parents, brother and family and friends in our prayers. I remember hearing about this tragedy. A friend was in Minneapolis area at the time of your funeral and said he could not believe how many people were there to pay their respects. You were loved by many, that is truly evident. Rest peacefully, and may your family know they are not grieving alone. Their loss is felt across the entire nation, every day. You will never be forgotton. God bless.

At the beginning of every shift I supervise, myself and the other officers on shift dedicate the day to the memory of a fallen officer.
Tonight, August 1, 2004 we dedicated the shift to the memory of Police Officer Melissa Jayne Schmidt who died in the line of duty on this date two years ago.
When one law enforcement officer falls, we all stumble for a while, but we will carry on.
Officer Schmidt's sacrifice will never be forgotten.

I visit the ODMP prior to the start of almost every shift. It is hard knowing that approximately 100 more Officers will pay the ultimate sacrifice this year. Melissa you did your time on Earth and have now been assigned a different detail. I didn't know you as a person, but I respect and admire what you accomplished here. I was in Bloomer the day your family and friends said goodbye, standing sadly among hundreds of fellow Officers and Deputies. I will never forget that day, ever. Know that we will continue the mission set forth for us here on Earth, knowing you have the watch up there. To Melissa's family: stay strong and know that Melissa's "other family," her brothers and sisters in blue, are thinking of you. Take care and God Bless. She is a hero to us all!

Hi Melissa,
It's been a long time since we played basketball in Havana and pool in the Bahamas, but I think about you daily. I lost touch with you after we left Havana, but since that day you gave the ultimate sacrifice, I think about you often.
My wife is from Rice Lake. The next time we visit her family, I will stop by to say hi and take a stroll down memory lane.
Miss ya

You should be here with us today celebrating your 37th birthday..instead we were with you at the cemetery with flowers and a little angel with a birthday cake. As many times as we go out there to be with you, it doesn't seem real..it just couldn't have happened that way...its a nightmare.
I wish we could all wake up and have it the way it was before that Thursday night in August. But..God had another plan for you and we feel you around us always. So many times you make us smile and I know you will continue to do so. We love you "baby girl"...HAPPY BIRTHDAY IN HEAVEN
