I said a little prayer today for Keeper McGovern and his family. He may be gone but not forgotten. He will always be a New York HERO.

Officer McGovern you paid the ultimate price keeping the public safe, by keeping watch over the inmates. You are not forgotten.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 109th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Rest In Peace

Keeper McGovern,

You were valiant in your actions during this incident. You are not forgotten, but remembered for your service. You may rest in peace, as we now have the watch, sir!

The Correctional Officers Prayer

Lord, I ask for courage...
Courage to face and conquer my own fears.
Courage to take me where others will not go.

I ask for strength...
Strength of body to protect others.
Strength of spirit to lead others.

I ask for dedication...
Dedication to my job, to do well.
Dedication to my community, to keep it safe.

Give me, Lord, concern for all those who trust me.
and compassion for those who need me.

And, please Lord, through it all
watch over me and keep me true.

Maintaining control of prisoners is a dangerous yet very necessary job. Without brave men like Keeper McGovern to perform it our system of justice could not function. I hope that you rest in peace Keeper. Your bravery and dedication to duty will not be forgotten.
