Reflections for Senior Trooper Michael Joseph Rao

To the family & friends of Trooper Rao,
I am so saddened to hear of the loss of your loved one. One of our troopers was struck & killed on 10-3-01 on i40 while on a traffic stop....he too was out of his vehicle when it occurred. That trooper was also the man that I had been married to for 8 years. I know what it is like to lose your loved one and co-worker. My thoughts and prayers are with you & pray that God will give you strength, comfort and the will to go on. Please pull together during this tragedy...so often (as in my case), family and friends fall apart from each other which only makes a tragedy even worse (if that's possible). To Trooper Rao's co-workers, don't ever forget to tell your loved ones how much they mean to you......tomorrow may be too late. To Trooper Rao, look Calvin up & he'll show you around the streets of gold in your eternal resting place. Don't hesitate to talk with other survivors...they can be of great assistance to you in time.

Mike I can't explain how much I will miss you. I keep thinking about Babbit, you and me skiing out on the lake. Thank you for being such a good friend to me. I'm very thankful that we had a chance to talk on the phone about my new job . I know you were excited and proud for me. I just want you to know how proud I am of you. I will miss you very much.

South Carolina has truly lost a wonderful trooper. The entire state is mourning the loss of Senior Trooper Rao. The Survivors in South Carolina are very lucky to have the organization C.O.P.S during these tragic times. When I lost my fiance' they were there for me and they will do the same for Trooper Rao's family. Rest in peace you will never be forgotten.

A Policeman's Prayer

When I start my tour of duty God wherever crime may be,
As I walk the darkened streets alone, let me be close to Thee.

Please give me understanding with both the young and old.
Let me listen with attention until their story's told.

Let me never make a judgment in a rash or callous way,
but let me hold my patience; let each man have his say.

Lord, if some dark and dreary night, I must give up my life. Lord, with your understanding love, protect my children and wife.

To the family of MIke, I say in times like this you need an anchor. Be sure and very sure your anchor will hold. That anchor is God. God rules and super rules this world and all power is in his hand. Look to the hills from whence cometh your help and remember all your help comes from God.
