Today you would have been 40. Much would have transpired between then and now. I would have loved to watch you grow.
Happy B'day, Bub.

Although I don't leave a reflection every day, I do think about you every day. I just ordered a memorial bracelet tonight with your name engraved on it. It has taken me that long to do it. I did etch your name off the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial in DC a few years ago when I went. I am at a loss for words because I am still having a hard time grieving your loss. It's been a rough 10 years for me. I have tried to forget that awful call that came over the radio and the scene I arrived at. I know that you are watching over all of us from up above and am glad for that back up from the right hand of God. Shane, I wished I had told you more what a good person you were and how much I learned from you. I will always be grateful. Until we meet again.

Ten years have passed and it seems like yesterday this terrible tragedy occurred. You are still loved and missed by so many and still in the hearts of us all. Always know...gone but not forgotten.

Shane was one of the most dedicated Deputies that I had the privilege to supervise in my career and I supervised a lot of excellent people. None matched his enthusiasm for excelling in his chosen occupation. He was someone that could have easily been anything he wanted and he chose our occupation. I always remember his dedication and eagerness to learn and excel. A credit to our Law Enforcement and our Country.

Hey Bud,
Today is the first day of January 2011. Happy New Year. Christmas is behind us and in some ways I am very glad.
We had Alyssa here for Christmas; she is growing-up so fast. She seems to be exelling in the martial arts; just like her dad. She's "quick" and can kick way over her head. You would be so proud of her. I don't think there will be much chance of anyone taking advantage unless they really want to work at it.
Brad & Mandy had the "critters" here as well. Your nemesis; Shane Issac is turning into quick a carismatic little guy with a dispostion much like yours; always happy and smiling. Laney continues to be quite the little cutey with her daddy's disposition. Aunt Sheila & Sonny were here Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Sonny is working at TDCJ now and admires you more than you could have ever imagined. It makes us proud to see what a role model you are to so many people.
Just wanted to stop in and say hello, update you on the family and let you know you are always in our thoughts and prayers.
Miss you as much as ever,
Pop

In reading the loving reflections left by his family, friends and co-workers I can see that Shane was very well respected and is sorely missed.
To his parent, I share your anquish in having lost a beloved son in the line of duty. I know that it feels like a big chunk of our heart is missing, and that our lives were forever altered in a matter of minutes. Somewhere else on ODMP, I read a quote that "Death ends a life, not a relationship". That is certainly borne out by your reflections and so true.
I am so sorry that Shane lost his life so tragically, but through his heroism and the profound sense of duty with which he lived his life, he made an immeasurable difference. May his spirit continue to soar and may his memory continue to inspire.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Shane gave to his community and the citizens of Texas, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on June 12, 2002

Happy Birthday. Talked about it being your day at lunch today. Trying to guess what you would look like creeping up on 40's door. Wondering where you would have been in your life today. Happy to know where you are right now. No better place to be.

Deputy Bennett I've followed your reflections here ever since that tragic day.I try to leave some words of comfort and encouragement .I see by some of the reflections that you
were admired and loved by many may our God continue to
comfort and strengthen your family and friends who still
mourn your loss.I know their pain and heartbreak.
You and I have patrolled the same streets dealt with the same type of people. From what I've read you must have been
one hell of a cop wish I could have been there for you.

Mom & I returned yesterday from the American Police Hall of Fame in Titusville, Florida. Your name was called at the vigil Friday night and we were so proud to stand and honor you as your name was called. I know you are still keeping an eye on us and believe me it is so greatly appreciated.

Today is National Peace Officers Memorial Day. I honor you my dearest Shane. So many years and still so many things coming out of your death, many good things. It's amazing what God can make happen out of the most tragic events. You have touched so many peoples lives in both life and death. And continue to do so after all these years. A now good friend of mine and a friend of yours from long ago lost some one close and he left us with this... you never know what's going to come out of all this. No, you never know. Keep on touching lives and keep on touching mine and that little girl of yours.

I did not take your death well and it has taken me this long to even read this web page. By now I am sure people realize how many people you have touched. You are missed every day but will never be forgotten since you come up in conversation often. You were a great friend and patrol partner. I am greatful for knowing you.
