Reflections for Refuge Manager Richard Jerry Guadagno
Richard, You, your family, and coworkers remain in my thoughts and prayers.10 yrs later, I continue to tell people that you, a LEO was on flight 93. So many are not aware of this. They think that LEOs only died in NY at the Towers. Everyone agrees that you were instrumental in helping trying to take the plane back and ensuring that no other building would be hit. You and your fellow passengers are true heroes and paid the ultimate sacrifice so others could live.

Richard, today on the 9th anniversary of the terrorist attacks, while we remember all who were taken from us that day. We especially remember those who died trying to save others. I will especially remember you. I never knew you, but today as I go about my day and remember those lost on that day, I will continue what I have been doing and that is to let others know that a LEO was on board flight 93. There is no doubt in my mind that you were instrumental in protecting Washington DC and dying in an attempt to take the plane back so others would live. You will always be remembered.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Sir
Every time i see the story of United 93 it brings tears to my eyes. No one should have to go through the horror you and the passengers of all the hijacked flights that day had to go through. You and your fellow passengers were in the presense of pure Evil and you took a stand, you saved thousands of lives and you sacrificed so others could live. I along with millions of Americans will never forget what you did that day and i will never forget the Evil that still faces those that remain. May the Lord bless the family you left behind and to know you all were heros. Heros die but they are forever remembered.

Thank you, Refuge Manager Richard Jerry Guadagno, for your dedication to God, your family and, ultimately, your country.
Your valor on United Flight 93, along with the other passengers who attempted to re-take the plane from terrorists on that horrible day, is a testament to your bravery, your forthrightness, and your knowledge that what you did was the simply the right thing to do.
It could not have been an easy decision, knowing that you would likely be sacrificing your life to save the citizens at the target intended by the terrorists.
I hope you know that a United Flight 93 Memorial is in the works and a temporary memorial is already in place. Where you and all the other passengers and crew is now a national park and is, like the site of the World Trade Center itself and the losses at the Pentagon that same day, considered "hallowed ground." I have proudly contributed to the Memorial fund and hope to be able to visit the memorial in person to pay my respects.
Your sacrifice was not in vain, and you will never be forgotten. Your family and friends remain in my prayers.
God speed and God bless. Rest in peace, Mgr. Guadagno.
God Bless America.

Brother Richard I have often stopped by your memorial and thought of your valor. Your courage on that day brings credit upon all law enforcement officers and especially on the FWS. What better example of the committment it takes to be a LEO than yours? Fighting against great odds not for your own survival but for the lives of others whose names we will never know. Your actions without question saved lives and there are people living today who would have perished without your sacrifice. Thank you, for what you did, your sacrifice and for serving as an example of what every officer should be. We will not forget you nor let the story of your valor fade and each generation of Officers will know that on that terrible day Officers like you earned the title hero and gave law enforcement officers the right to the title "America's Finest".
Rest in peace now my brother, your duty well and truly done, we will keep the watch.
