I am terribly sorry for the loss of your husband and father.
I have seen your name many times on other reflections, and wanted to read about your husband. It is so sad that he died so close to your home. I am very sorry.
It is a very respectible thing that you are doing by reaching out to others. It shows your faith, and your love for your husband. I'm sure your kind words are helping other heal.
Good luck to you and your children. It sounds like your life is full of good memories of such a loving hero.

Today is July 9, 2003. Nine years ago today, I became the happiest woman in the world, I became your wife. I remember the day just like it was yesterday. You were so handsome in your tux. On this day I promised to "love, honor and cherish you until death do we part." But, (as a poem a friend of mine whose husband was also killed has written), I can not keep this promise. Because, even though now in death we have parted, I still love, honor and cherish you. My love will never die for you. You will always be precious to me. Nothing can ever take away what you and I had together. You were the best husband and father to our children I could have ever asked for. Our love reaches across eternity, that is how strong our love is. We are eternally together. I know one day that we will be together again and what a reunion that will be. You gave me the biggest hug and twirled me around the day we got married just as we came out of the church. Next time I am going to give you the same treatment. I love you Brian and always will. Nothing or noone will ever change that or take your place in my heart. There always will be a place for you in my heart and life. Happy 9th Anniversary baby! I LOVE YOU!!!

Our hearts and prayers go out to your family. Our family knows all too well the great pain and loss that you feel. God only needed our love ones before us. They are in our future already waiting for us. What a wonderful way too have left this world and having those moments on tape.We will keep you in our prayers. John 14:27

Thank you Denise for leaving a message on my fiance's page. It means a lot to know I am not alone in my pain. It saddens me to know that Dennis and Brian were not the first law enforcement officers to die in the line of duty, nor will they be the last. My heart goes out to Brian Nichols' family, friends and coworkers.
Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Brian is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Brian was well respected and well loved. Thank you for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please take care of my fiance Dennis.
Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!

To Brian:No one knows what make some people choose the life that you,I,and others have chosen. Why do we rush to the sound of danger when everyone else runs? The only thing I know is that we belong to a very special group. We are the protectors. Unfortunately, sometimes one of our own falls. This time that person was you. You made the ultimate sacrifice just by doing your job. I think that is the greatest compliment that an officer can receive, that you did your job. You will not be forgotton.

You sweet man, you! The world needs more men like you! So sad
that crazy horse got in your way! One never knows what a day holds.
So relieved you were prepared to leave and happy to know that you
are now with your Savior! May the Lord comfort your family as your
anniversary is soon approaching and I know that will be a difficult day.
God bless all those that still mourn.
Lynn Kole
You gave the ultimate sacrifice. You may be gone, but you will NEVER be forgotten. We are all family in this job, sometimes we are the only family each other has. In pace requiescat, Rest in peace! Keep a watch on the rest of us as we go on shift each day.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Trooper Brian Nichols. I was born and raised in Dothan, AL and have always admired the men and women who served the great state of Alabama as State Troopers. I never had the honor of meeting Trooper Nichols but I know that I will when my watch ends, and I know that he will watch over those of us who continue to serve. God bless.

So many people have already written so many wonderful things about Brian. He truly was the best ever! I could have never asked for a better husband and father of our children. He loved me and the children and always showed and told us just how much no matter who was around.
He was the priest in our home, just as the Bible called him to be. He read the Bible to our children daily and prayed with us daily. I know he loved God with everything in him. The day of his death, he left his video camera in his car going after one of his traffic stops, which he was unaware of. For a few but precious moments he drove around in his patrol car singing worship with the radio and praying for others. A few hours later he was with the Lord. It makes me think that if the last few hours of my life were taped what would I be doing? Would I be spending it in worship and prayer as he did?
My husband began his shift in our front yard and ended it in the presence of our Lord. What better way to end a shift?! He never missed a breath. He took one here on this earth and took his next one in Glory!!
The hardest thing is that he was only 9 miles from our home when he hit the horse. He always told me that most accidents happen within a 20 mile radius of your home. And that is where his accident happened.
I just pray my life will touch half the amount of lives that Brian's touched. I love him with all my heart and even though it has been almost 6 months, it still feels like yesterday that we lost him. When I look at our children, I see his face and his dreams. I will continue his dreams he had for us and our children. His memory will live on forever in our hearts and minds.
Until we are united again in Glory,
I LOVE YOU BABY!

I served in the U.S. Coast Guard with Trooper Nichols when he was a reserve at Coast Guard Station Mobile. He was a model coastie and from talking to him I know he loved his job as a trooper. He also encouraged me to get back into law enforcement after the coast guard. We just lost our Asst.Chief to a plane crash while looking for dope..My sympathies go out to brian's family....hang in there....He will be missed.

No farewell words were spoken,
No time to say goodbye,
You were gone before we knew it,
And only God knows why.
If tears could build a stairway
And memories a lane
I’d walk right up to heaven and
Bring you home again.
Brian: It is an honor to be your in-laws. We knew you before you were a teenager, watched from our small-town sidelines as you matured in manhood, and delighted in the fact that you eventually became a member of our family. Not once, in all those formative years, did we fail to see the impact your walk with God had on your life and those around you; it is with great humility that we give thanks for the effect your life had on ours. Anyone who knew you was immediately aware of your dedication to your Savior, our daughter, your children, and your job. Daily we see you reflected in your two babies’ faces, actions and mannerisms. Our daughter and your children have been assigned a difficult (and sometimes overwhelming) task … the one of learning to live life without you. Although this is something we prayed they would never experience – it has become evident why our daughter has the Godly gifts that were bestowed on her; her strength, her walk with God, and her love for you has shone brighter than ever before. Both of you are inspirations to us in ways neither of you are aware. Although there is a huge gaping hole in all our hearts, we are grateful for the impact your earthly life left; we know that your life as well as your death touched many lives and many souls. We are remaining steadfast to our promise to you of 8 years ago – standing in the gap holding our daughter and the children. Not too many days after February 17, in the midst of her tears, our daughter had to remind me that if you COULD come back, you wouldn’t – but, dear, none of us were prepared to live without you. We are looking forward to seeing you in Heaven … Look for all of us – we’re coming! In the meantime – your hopes and aspirations live on through your dedicated, loving wife and children.

I was so moved by the support given to Brian's family at the time of his passing. The city of Jackson stood still during the funeral procession as the droves of cars passed through town to his gravesight. This shows me that Brian was well respected in his community and I am proud to say he was my cousin. Brian lived for God and touched many lives. One day we will know why God called him home.

I found this web site after the loss of my husband's "partner in crime" Daniel Clark on June 6,2002. I knew Brian through my husband. He and Brian had worked together many times. Brian's funeral was the first Officer funeral I had ever attended. The only words I know that can describe it is "deeply humbling"! Someone said "He always had a smile on his face" and that is true! He always had a smile and polite words of greeting. My heart and prayer are with his wife, children, and family.

To the friends and family of Trooper Nichols, please accept my heartfelt condolences on the loss of another fellow law enforcement officer. I know that words on a page are hopelessly inadequate to convey my sympathy for you. Having just experienced the death of Sgt. Tom Hontz at my own agency, our first in the line of duty death ever, I understand your grief and pain. Sgt. Hontz was a friend and a great cop, and I know what so many of your are feeling. I offer this:
A Man once said, "God knows every time a sparrow falls." So, now Lord, hear our cries, and feel our pain, for this time...it was an Eagle.
God Bless you,
