Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Michael T. Scanlon

Rest in peace. You will never be forgotten!

S. Yates

I would just like to say that, in the near future I plan on becoming a full time officer. I can only hope and pray that I do as good a job as you did! You will be greatly missed! You are a true hero!

Reserve Officer Jeremiah Hoehner
Madison Heights Police Department

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers! As I sat here and read the reflections left by all who cared, I could not stop the tears. They were tears falling just because so many took the moment to express their feelings. Thank you for your love and support!

A special thanks goes out to the officers from Detroit, Redford, Livonia, and Farmington Hills who did all they could to help Mike on that fateful night. Words cannot express my thanks to you, that although I could not be there to hold his hand, you were! Mike did not die alone because of you.

God Bless all of you! You all have a special place in my heart!

Leah Scanlon (Mike's wife)
Detroit, MI

I won't forget where I was when the call came out that Ofc. Scanlon was down. It was one of the hardest things I have ever heard over the radio. Please Ofc Scanlon, rest in peace.

It is special men like your loved one that make The United States of America truely great.

May the God of all comfort place his tent over you. Please remember to throw all your burdens upon the Lord and he will sustain you. PS.55-22

The family of Officer Michael Scanlon would like to thank all Michael's brothers and sisters in blue for all of the support you gave Michael and our family. He was very proud to be a police officer and tried his best to make a difference. Our family knew of the dangers of his profession, backed him 200%. Michael was always there for family, friends or anyone who needed help. Michael may be gone, but he will be forever in our hearts. Thanks to all of you and may God watch over you while performing your duties.

Charles A. Scanlon Jr.
White Lake, MI

Sleep well my brother for your ultimate sacrifice was not in vain!

Watch over us and keep us safe as we hold the thin blue line.

PO Brian Gillaspie
Pacific (MO) Police Dept.

I've lost too many friends to the cowards on the streets. Although the Detroit area is my home, Officer Scanlon and I never met but through our oath we became brothers. Your life on this earth ended because of your courage, bravery, dedication and integrity and the cowardess of a punk who, from what it sounds like, should have been locked up years ago. My God Bless your wife and children and give them comfort in the knowledge that you are at the right hand of God. To your fellow officers, my most heartfelt sympathies and prayer go to you as well. God Bless you and this great country.

Sergeant Leigh Persky
Montgomery County Sheriff, Alabama

MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO OFFICER MICHAEL SCANLON AND ALSO TO THE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE DETROIT POLICE DEPARTMENT. MAY GOD BLESS EACH ONE OF YOU AND MAY HE KEEP YOU IN HIS ARMS. STAY SAFE BROTHERS AND SISTERS.

To Officer Scanlons family, put your trust in God and He will see you thru any tragedy! Officer Scanlon is a hero in that he performed his duties in the manner he was trained. He will be remembered as a very brave man that did his job well and paid the ultimate sacrifice. And now one less piece of trash is walking the street to harm someone else.

As I stood on the street and watched the procession pass, I could not help it as the tears ran free, another brother gone. I can’t help but wonder when it will all stop. Even though I never had an opportunity to meet him, we walked the same path in life. Michael may you rest in peace my brother, your end of watch has come. To his wife the words I’m sorry don’t mean much right now and I understand you are in my prayers.

C. Schmidt
Chief of Security Ret.

Know that you have moved onto a better place, may you watch over us. All of our love goes out to your family, friends and fellow co-workers. Keep walking the beat in heaven brother, may you never be forgotten.

SPO Al Crouse
Wilson Police Department

" I think now looking back, that we are not fighting an enemy. Sometimes we are fighting ourselves and the enemy is within us. Make yourself no mistake; give all to your brothers in blue. Never let their badge go tarnished only because, Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. When we meet again brothers, then we will smile, if not then we know that this party was well formed"!

This is what I said when my partners was slain. I hurt every time a brother in blue leaves us for any reason. Please pray for their families and make sure the babies, and wives of our brothers survive.

With the deepest sorrow and the never forgotten honor,

Detective Matthew Heckman
New Bern Police Department
New Bern, North Carolina

Officer Mike Scanlon, DPD, you will be greatly missed by your fellow police offciers. Although I did not know you, I attended your funeral today, and the support the City of Detroit, State of Michigan, and this great nation showed for you and your family was filled with honor and integrity. Be proud and remember the coward will one day pay for what he did to my fellow brother in blue.

Ptl. Matt Morton
Traverse City Police Department, Traverse City, Michigan

Part of America Died
Somebody killed a policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
with counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It Happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call, and gave us his all,
and a part of America died.

Officer J. Bommarito
SRPD & Former Detroit Police Officer

You are a hero and will not be forgotten.
