Reflections for Correctional Officer Aaron Michael Schoffstall

Although 10 years have passed since we lost you it seems not a day goes by that I don't think of you. I remember all the good times we had growing up. The countless nights we spent at the Wigwam and how important we thought we were on the day we got our drivers license. I remember the days we hung out at the mall and at Brad's house. Those memories truly hold a special place in my heart. God took such a beautiful person way too soon! You are my hero!

I don't speak much about my feelings with family. It's been years since tragedy befell Aaron. However, every time I think of it I feel saddened at it. He was taken from this earth far too soon. I still hold fond memories of playing together with him & Shaun.

Due to moving to California, the last time I saw Aaron, he was a young teenager. I never got the chance to see him & spend time with him as an adult, because of this tragedy.

Jena, you have endured a lot of heart ache in this life, losing people you, dearly, love.

I hope you, Shaun, & your grand daughter are all doing well.

Aaron, I know we were not best friends, but I think about you often. We went through all of school together, an accomplishment! It was coincidental that we also often ran into each other at Regional Hospital and throughout years after school. I remember you telling me about your daughter.....I knew instantly you were a great father. I hope she can read these posts and have a perfect picture of her daddy! You are definitely missed. At our 10yr Highschool reunion we had a momnet of silence for you and other classmates that have passed on too soon, but I'll be honest when I say, you were the only one on my mind. You were a great person, a great father, a great officer, and you are still missed today! Gone but not forgotten! God Bless!

Your heroism and service is honored today, the ninth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished sqon Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I pray for the solace of all those who love and miss you. Both the pain and pride are forever. Jena, I share your anquish in losing a beloved child which surely must be life's greatest sorrow. You are in my heart's embrace today.

Rest In Peace

Officer Schoffstall, you displayed immense courage on your way to work on that fateful day 8 years ago. You selfless act of dedication to community when you stopped to aid a citizen who may have been in distress reveals the true heroism in you. My prayers are with your family to aid them through these difficult times. May you rest in peace, sir, we are on the watch now.

The Correctional Officers Prayer

Lord, I ask for courage...
Courage to face and conquer my own fears.
Courage to take me where others will not go.

I ask for strength...
Strength of body to protect others.
Strength of spirit to lead others.

I ask for dedication...
Dedication to my job, to do well.
Dedication to my community, to keep it safe.

Give me, Lord, concern for all those who trust me.
and compassion for those who need me.

And, please Lord, through it all
watch over me and keep me true.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I left VCSD in 1994 so I did not know this fine young man, but from all of the reflections left on this site I can tell that I missed out on not knowing him. May God bless your family that was left behind. Rest in peace.

Our Dear Aaron, you made me feel so at home in this family when I married your cousin Brent. We were all so close and we miss you so much. I expect you to just walk in our front door at any moment and challenge Brent to a game of Nintendo...he misses you so much. We are so glad you were able to meet and hold our daughter Kaycee, born just 3 days before your accident. We love you.

Jena, I don't know if you ever read this. I want you to know that I think you are an amazing mom and you did a fabulous job raising your boys. Aaron turned out to be a wonderful man, husband, and father, due in no small part to you. Now he is resting easy, watching us all, and waiting for us to someday join him. Congratulations on a job well done.

We all miss you so much but I know you are somewhere looking down on us all. I will never forget that geeky blonde 12 year old boy that I met so many years ago. I will never forget you Aaron! You came into my life as a kid and though we lost touch for a while it was nice having you here again! I know that I will see you again someday! I think of you often and always will! Love you!

Aaron Schoffstall was one of the most wonderful people I had the pleasure of knowing. We had a lot of wonderful times growing up together and I miss him sooooooooooo much. Even though we didn't see each other as much when we had gotten older. I can still remember dancing with him at his wedding just months before his death. And at last he was truly happy. I miss you so much cuz and hope to see you again someday. Your cousin Rob

So sad you weren't able to live out

too soon and I can't help but think of
