Reflections for Trooper Kelly Leland Poynter
To the family of Trooper Kelly Poynter and the members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol....you are in our prayers...
I echo the thoughts of the NCSHP Trooper above...the judicial system must look at the effects of drunk driving and deal with it adequately....we in law enforcement deal with this on a daily basis....and understand its severity....the judicial system must pick up the pace and come to terms with this problem in society....for now we can only grieve the loss of a fellow officer...and uphold his family in our prayers....
Thank you Trooper Kelly Poynter for doing a thankless job and may God Bless and keep your family, both personal and professional....
Patrolman L.C. Sloan
Cameron, MO Police Department
May everyones thoughts and prayers be with Trooper Poynter. It means a lot when an officer is killed in the line of duty, but this one has hit close to home. May god bless those of us who protect.
Rest in peace my brother.

As hard as we work to keep the public safe we are still not immune to the senseless act of drunk driving. When the courts quit playing games with the criminals we will stop seeing tragedies like this occur. To this Trooper's family and friends we at the North Carolina Highway Patrol send our heart felt condolences.

Dear family and co-workers we know that there are no words to make it better so I won't try. It's never easy to accept the fact of an officer being pulled off the Thin Blue Line. Know that in our hearts they will always remain.....their spirits are with us, each n' every day to carry on the tradition to protect and serve. We are here for you in any way be it a shoulder to cry on or assist you in filling paper work. Warm and caring hugs

Tooper Poynter is a hero and will always be remembered as such.
This all seems so senseless, especially in the light that drinking and driving is 100% preventable. Our police dep't lost an officer on July 9, 2001. Officer Justin Wollam was killed when a young man decided to get behind the wheel of a car, cross over into oncoming traffic and strike our dear brother head on. It is so painful and so difficult to accept, much less understand.
My prayers will be with Trooper Poynter's wife and children, family, troopers, friends and community he left behind. I would also encourage those trying to deal with this horror to not back away from his family. They need their LEO family now more than ever. In your grief, extend a helping hand and your healing will come much sooner.
Again, my prayers are with all of you.
