" I think now looking back, that we are not fighting an enemy. Sometimes we are fighting ourselves and the enemy is within us. Make yourself no mistake; give all to your brothers in blue. Never let their badge go tarnished only because, Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. When we meet again brothers, then we will smile, if not then we know that this party was well formed"!
This is what I said when my partners was slain. I hurt every time a brother in blue leaves us for any reason. Please pray for their families and make sure the babies, and wives of our brothers survive.
With the deepest sorrow and the never forgotten honor,
Detective Matthew Heckman
New Bern Police Department
New Bern, North Carolina
Our prayers are with you. God bless you all.

I want to express my sympathy to Mrs. Poynter. My husband Frank was also struck by a drunk driver 3 months ago. If you ever want to talk. Give yourself time to grieve. It is important to be strong for your children (we have 3) but don't overlook your feelings. I tried to be strong, but at 3 months, I feel the shock wearing off and the sadness is still as strong as ever. But my children seem to be doing much better than I expected, and I know Frank is okay now and watching over us. God bless,
Kristina,
widow of Trooper Frank Vazquez,

What a loss for the family and the citizens of the State of Missouri. No words can express the sorrow I feel for the family of Officer Poynter. No words can replace this husband, father and friend to many. I never met Officer Poynter, but I feel the loss of this member of my police family. May God lessen the pain of his family and friends and let Kellys light shine bright in this time of darkness.

Kelly was my cousin. He was an exceptional father. It is so hard to believe that he is gone. I wish for everyone that reads this to pray for his wife Alison, his sons, Caleb and Nathan, his mother, Kathy, stepfather, Kenny, and his sister Crissy. He was a great guy whose life ended too soon. I know that he is looking down on us from heaven and that we will see him again someday.

On behalf of the officers and civilian employees of the Metro Nashville Police Department, I would like to express heartfelt sympathies and prayers for strength to the family of Trooper Poynter and also to our brothers and sisters of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Our department lost an officer (Candace Ripp, E.O.W. 12-8-2001) under very similiar conditions recently and it is such a senseless, needless waste to lose an officer in this way. However, Trooper Poynter's heroic final moments of life speak volumes of the kind of man he was. As a native of the great state of Missouri, let me say how thankful we are for his all too brief tenure of service. To his family, we love you and will always be there for you, now and in the days and years to come. May God bless you and keep you always. As law enforcement officers, may we all emulate the example of selfless sacrifice and tremendous bravery that Trooper Kelly Poynter has set for us. God bless law officers everywhere.

Our prayers are with the family and friends of this dedicated Trooper. May God be with each of you!

The Minnesota State Patrol Trooper's Association extends its' deepest regrets at this time of sorrow. People always ask us "Aren't you afraid of being shot?". I always answer no because be shot at isn't what scares me, it's being hit by another vehicle.

May Trooper Poynter rest in peace. Another senseless act of drunk driving has taken a fellow brother, May his friends and family know are they are in our prayers. It is about time the courts put drunk drivers where they belong, behind bars so tragidies like these don't occur. Rest in peace my brother.

I read about the taking of Officer Kelly Poynter life at the hands of a drunk driver and was heart broken. When I read about this in the paper I could not get the wife and children of Officer Poynter off my mind. I am so very, very sorry. I cannot possibly know your pain or understand your loss, but I share in your anger. I am simply outraged. Much has been accomplished to strengthen the laws against drunk driving, but more must be done. This was not an assault, it was a murder. If I can be of help to Officer Poynter's family I would consider it an honor. May God Bless and keep the family and friends of this downed officer.
