Reflections for Border Patrol Agent Eloy Hernandez
My thoughts are with your loved ones on this 5th anniversary of your end of watch. Continue to keep watch over your loved ones and those still out on patrol watching over the thin blue line. You are a true hero and heroes never die. You will never be forgotten.

Eloy, you are truly missed. My life has done a complete turn since you were taken from us. Do you take care of my baby that I sent? I have a baby whom I named after you...and he looks so much like you!! It's weird since you and I don't look that much alike. His feet are just like yours! He's a survivor, Eloy. He was born at 29 weeks of pregnancy and was released after 40 days from the hospital. I saw you there, thank you for helping me be strong when my baby needed me the most. You're still protecting us, thank you so much. I love you and miss you.....

My fiancé, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis was a Deputy Sheriff with the Davis County Sheriff's Office in SE Iowa. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Eloy did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Eloy be the last to die this way.
Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Agent Hernandez's family, friends, and co-workers must have gone through in losing him. My heart goes out to you all, especially to his wife. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. Please know that my thoughts are with you and that you are not alone in your "journey". Should you ever need anything please do not hesitate to contact me. (Dennis' department will also always know how to reach me.)
As a fallen officer "survivor" and a friend, please accept my condolences on behalf of myself and the McElderry family. I never got the opportunity to know Eloy but, I am certain he was well respected and well loved. Eloy will live on in the hearts of all the lives he touched. You were all blessed to have been able to know and love Eloy, even for a short time. I pray that Eloy will continue to watch over us along with all the other fallen officers all as only they can.
Thank you Agent Hernandez for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiancé Dennis for me.
Wishing you and all those who loved you brighter and better days,
Jocelyne :)

You know they say that time heals all wounds. I often wonder if the person that said never lost someone as wonderful and needed as you. With you went part of me. My heart now bears a missing part for I will miss you always. Even with the toll of time I will think of you. You were my biggest supporter in everything I did. I could do nothing wrong in your eyes and I love you for that. I love you for the love and courage you always showed. You left us with many wonderful memories and for that I am thankful. I am thankful for the unselfish person you were and for always showing me how to love. You were an excellent role model and I learned a lot from you. You taught me how to see the best in everyone else you taught me the real meaning of valor and for that I will be eternally grateful. Even though a piece of the chain is now missing it is a constant reminder that we will be reunited. That you my dear brother will forever live in our hearts. You are missed everyday but with every passing day I thank the Lord for the many cherished memories you left behind. I think of you always for no matter how much time goes by your memory will live on forever my beloved hero.
Forever in Our Hearts,

Today is November 16, 2004 and I had never seen this website. In exactly two months, it will be three years since we lost our loved one. I read every reflection left by people who care and I was brought to tears. I have had a hard time dealing with his loss. He was my only one year older than I am and he was my strenght and support. I was working as a juvenile correctional officer and encoutered many problems (mainly with coworkers) and I could always count on him to help me out. I quit my job a month after he passed away because my strenght was gone. I couldn't believe someone actually mentioned the fact that my brother talked so much of my father! He did! He always did. He once said that if God our Creator didn't exist, our dad would be his God. I printed the page and can't wait to show it to my family. Nothing will bring him back but I don't know why but this page really made me feel something. Thank You!
I believe my brother's spirit is around us for many reasons. He will remain alive as long as we keep him in our hearts.

Eloy,
You were my classmate and my friend. I am a richer person for having been able to share time with you. We ran together as classmates and I saw how hard you struggled to be the best Agent. You were so very proud you when you received your badge. You were someone I respected for the virtues of honesty and the respect you displayed to everyone. I especially enjoyed when you talked of your father, as it was very clear that you loved and honored him. You are deeply missed.
Sincerely,

To my Friend,
You were one of the few people I have known who would do anything possible to help a friend. You always had the time to listen and I will never forget. You knew how to keep a confidence, better than I. Every day I remember your friendship, your honor and your sense of humor...even in the worst times you could make me laugh, at myself, work, life. You will always be in my thoughts and in my heart. Friendships should never end in such tragedy, yet your soul lives on in those you have touched.
Forever your friend,
Dot

May the God of all comfort place his tent over you. Please remember to throw all your burdens upon the Lord and he will sustain you. PS.55-22
My condolences at your time of grief. Know that all of law enforcement grieves his loss throughout the world.
I was involved in a simular accident 3 years ago, on a gravel road, in a utility vehicle, and I rolled 4 times. Why I made it (tho' seriously injured) leads me to believe that it was not my time to go, and the Lord had other plans for me.
God bless Eloy and all of his family. Rest in peace brother.

Our county borders the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico, and as such I work with Border Patrol agents on a daily basis from the Mercedes and McAllen stations. I have a special place in my heart for these men and women and it truly hurts to see one lost. They are truly the first line of defense of American soil.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of BPA Eloy Hernandez. Our department is here for you if you need us.

I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the Hernandez family and fellow agents. At Charleston International Airport in SC I work as a Pre-Board Screener and have encountered many young Border Patrol Agents who have just graduated from the academy. They are young men and women who are setting out on their new assignments; most with big smiles and much enthusiasm. They are the most polite young officers with a great deal to offer our nation. The public should be grateful for the commitment of these young officers who put their lives on the line every day. My God Bless them and keep them safe.
