Blessed are the peacemakers,For they shall be called sons of God." Matthew 5:9

It's not supposed to happen this way. The good guys go home at the end of shift- the bad guys comply, go to jail or die if the need arise. In the history of our profession, we have lost too many of our brothers and sisters at the hands of the criminals who roam our communities. This is just senseless, and it just is not supposed to happen. Hans, I really enjoyed knowing you from High School and professionally since. It's a darned shame I did not meet your family until this tragic day. We will look after them - Rest in Peace my brother. God Bless the USA BHS'79

Hans was a fine man, husband, and father, in addition to being a great trooper. Hans was a very intellegent man with a great sense of humor.I had the opportunity to work with him over the years and will miss him. I spoke to him only last week when he told me he was glad to get back to patrol duties after spending years in commercial vehicle enforcement.

Hans was a man his children can be very proud of. Our hearts go out to his family.

I did not know Hans but from what I hear from other officers he was a kind and caring man who did his job to the best of his ability and was an outstanding father and husband to his family. I send out my deepest sympathy to his family and friends, and I know he is in a better place looking down on us now counting the days until he can be reunited with his family, to his children, your father was a true hero doing a job that most people can only criticize but dont have the courage to take on themselves. God speed brother, go in peace.....
