Reflections for Trooper Hans-Peter Roelle

Hans:
Just read through the many comments about your many positive attributes and I thought I'd add something few people know about your accomplishments.
Upon your assignment to the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement unit of the Alaska State Troopers we required you to have your Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with all endorsements. The six weeks of training with the Alaska Teamster Employer Training Trust, d/b/a Center for Employee Education (CEE). You exemplified in a positive way the profession of an Alaska State Trooper, and to recognize that quality you graduated top of your class with your CDL.
You was of great help with our Truck Safety Program and highly respected in the trucking industry. Hans, I miss you and like many of the comments, rarely a day goes by I don't remember you.

In remembrance of my good friend Hans I thank our Father in Heaven for the opportunity to have known Hans for nearly two decades and rarely a day goes by that I don't think of Hans.
We shared our lives when you attended the Trooper Academy in Sitka where I was assign as an instructor. Little did I know at that time that we would eventually work together in the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit. Those were wonderful days of which I have often reflected on as some of the most rememberable days of my 26 with the Alaska State Troopers. I visit your final resting place when I can. I miss you Hans.

Hans, it's 2024 now. I left EMS in 2009. I finally realized that I had broken down physically and mentally. First Jim and then you. Plus all of the kids in the middle of that contributed to a lifetime of unwanted memories. I owe you an apology. I was on duty that day. I was in charge of the scene because of my rank. But when they said gunshot to the head I couldn't move. I sent the best crew to pull you out. I couldn't even respond when we were to agree on calling you deceased. You and I had just been laughing and joking around at a scene a few days prior. The wallet came out again and I listened to more stories about the kids. I miss our days of laughter. Those are gone.

You were the poster child of the ultimate Alaska State Trooper. The finesse in handling difficult or frightend people was unforgettable. You always looked so professional when you appeared and then whatever the situation was, you adapted and handled the dynamics with a calm demeanor. My Hero in blue!

I think about you all the time. But losing you and that day always interrupts. I feel like I failed you my friend. I hope your beautiful kids are all together this Thanksgiving and remember the joy of the days when you and Chris were still here. Memories can be healing. Especially when they remember the love of your laughter.

May the Lord bless them all and all of the Law Enforcement Officers in our country. I surely do miss you my friend and Hero. You will never be forgotten.

On this day of Thanksgiving Hans, I reflect back to how much your friendship meant to me. Young troopers in Anchorage, with the future ahead of us. The day you crossed over the Thin Blue Line to join those who have gone before, was one of the saddest days of my life. You are missed Hans, say hi to Dale Gibson for me. We will be seeing you one day. Your family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers today. Rest in Peace Hans.

Hans

As a fellow who shared a German heritage, and as immigrants, and then you became my primary Field Training Officer 20 years ago, there is not a day that goes by where I am reminded by the ultimate scarifice you made my friend. You said that you would be at my retirement so you could poke fun at my rookie errors. You even were proud of the photograph of my traffic stop where I wore my Stetson backwards and you laughed so hard. Sadly, that day will never come. I wear the Fallen Officer bracelet with your name every time I put on that uniform and badge to remind me that many of our fallen officers have given up their lives to protect the innocent and serve the public. For those of us who served with you here in Alaska, we will never forget you. We will never forget all of the other fallen officers as well.

Rest in Peace.
